The Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency
Response Standard (HAZWOPER) program was
developed by OSHA to protect workers at hazardous
materials sites.

Employees and employers covered by the OSHA
HAZWOPER standard are required to take the
initial HAZWOPER training which consists of a 24
or 40-hour course.

Additional courses are needed for supervisors or
employees in supervisory roles upon completion of
their initial training and refreshers.

8-hour refreshers are required annually once
employees have completed their initial training.

The DOT HAZMAT Program only needs to be
done every three years.
