HISTORY
Lunar New Year, Chinese Chunjie, Vietnamese Tet,
Korean Solnal, Tibetan Losar, also known as
Spring Festival, is a festival celebrated in
China and other Asian countries that starts with
the first new moon of the lunar calendar and
finished 15 days after that with the first full
moon.
Because the lunar calendar is based on lunar
cycles, the dates of the holiday vary slightly
from year to year, beginning among January 21
and February 20 on Western calendars.
The Lunar New Year festival has thousands of
years of history and is engrained in
legend. Nian, a hideous beast said to feast on
human flesh on New Year's Day, is one legend.
