What Is a Rebar?
Rebar is a steel bar or mesh of steel wires used
as a tension device in reinforced concrete, used
to strengthen and aid the concrete in tension.
Carbon steel is the most popular type of rebar,
which is made up of hot-rolled circular bars with
deformation patterns. Stainless steel and
composite bars comprised of glass fiber, carbon
fiber, or basalt fiber are also commonly
available. Steel reinforcing bars can also be
coated with an epoxy resin to prevent corrosion,
which is especially important in saltwater
conditions. Bamboo may be used as a concrete
reinforcement material instead of steel.
