THE IMPORTANCE OF WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE IN CONSTRUCTING

Description:

Waterproofing allows you to protect the exterior barriers of your structure from the elements. You keep the inside safe by waterproofing your walls, windows, and roof, while the outside stays, well, outside. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

Title: THE IMPORTANCE OF WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE IN CONSTRUCTING

1
THE IMPORTANCE OF WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE IN
CONSTRUCTING
2
A house is more than just a place where people
live it is an embodiment of the people who live
there. The feelings and memories that a family
shares in that space are what make a house a
home. Its not only about putting up walls,
ceilings, and floors its about creating an
environment that makes you feel comfortable,
relaxed, and happy in every manner. While perfect
aesthetics are usually the utmost priority when
it comes to the construction and design of any
property, the durability of these aesthetics is
always at risk if effective roof
waterproofing isnt taken into account. Water can
seep into the structure, weakening it by
corroding the re-bars. Excessive water seepage
can lead to fungal growth, short circuits, and
paint flaking, lowering the residential
propertys inherent value.
3
Many of these problems can be readily solved if
an appropriate waterproofing solution is chosen
throughout the framing process. In this
situation, the mother slab can be waterproofed,
and the waterproofing can be topped with a 1520
mm thick cement concrete layer. Customers are
always apprehensive of burdensome civil works if
the roof has already been cast and is
experiencing water seepage concerns. Modern
exposed waterproofing membranes are the result of
this demand. These membranes are exceptionally
flexible, UV resistant, and able to withstand
human traffic, resulting in an attractive and
durable water-resistant roofing.
4
  • Lets take a look at the factors to consider
while choosing a waterproofing system to better
    comprehend the process.
  • The state of the foundation
  • Cracks that have already formed should be
    treated.
  • Whether its waterproofing beneath the tiles or
    waterproofing thats visible
  • Waterproofing membrane elastomeric property
    (elasticity)
  • Rooftop traffic expected
  • Waterproofing membrane type

5
  • Lets take a closer look at these points
  • The state of the foundation substrate
  • Waterproofing membranes may be required for a
variety of substrates, including tiled surfaces,
china chips surfaces, concrete surfaces, damp
    surfaces, moss/fungus-infested surfaces, and so
    on.
  • Waterproofing adhesion varies from surface to
surface, resulting in variable performance for
the end-user. A sufficient surface preparation
advised by the manufacturer, as well as a correct
primer, are essential for obtaining appropriate
    adhesion to the base substrate.

6
2. Cracks that have already formed should be
treated. Existing fractures operate as
floodgates, allowing water from the roofs to
easily seep into the internal walls of ceilings
and walls, causing fungus growth and paint film
stripping. Cracks must be opened using a
mechanical grinder or chisel and hammer, then
filled with polymer-modified cement putty
squeezed in. Allow 24 hours for the filled cracks
to dry.
7
3. Whether its waterproofing beneath the tiles
or waterproofing thats visible At this time,
waterproofing membranes exist in a range of
shapes and sizes. Each waterproofing membrane is
designed to work in a certain climate. On the
base concrete/mother slab, an under-tile
waterproofing membrane is put and then covered
with concrete/tiles/china chips. Under-tile
waterproofing membranes can be less expensive and
less puncture-prone. However, pinpointing the
source of damage in the event of a leak might be
difficult, and the entire operation may have to
be redone. Waterproofing membranes nowadays are
highly flexible, UV resistant, and resistant to
normal human traffic. The benefit of these
membranes is that they avoid the need for
time-consuming civil work and are reasonably easy
to install. If there is any damage, it is simple
to repair it.

4. The waterproofing membranes elastomeric
property (elasticity). Flexible waterproofing
membranes can adjust to temperature changes
better than rigid membranes. While cementations
waterproofing membranes are hard and suitable for
under-tile waterproofing or places with little
rainfall, acrylic and polyurethane-based
waterproofing provide superior elastomeric and UV
stability, as well as the ability to be used in
exposed settings. Any waterproofing systems
elastomeric feature is valid for a specific
thickness. The qualities of a membrane may be
harmed by diluting it or applying it with a
thinner film thickness or fewer layers. Under any
circumstances, such practices must be avoided. To
avoid water gathering or puddling, the right
slope towards the drain pipes must be maintained
before laying a waterproofing membrane.
9
5. The amount of traffic expected on the
roof While the manufacturers specified
thickness or number of coats should be followed,
its also important to consider the expected
surface roughness as well as traffic or movement
on the floor. The membrane must be resistant to
traffic and should not be punctured by
it. Polyurethane membranes outperform
cementations membranes in terms of abrasion
resistance. Acrylic analogues are perfect for
high-traffic areas such as podiums, running
tracks, and other similar situations. Acrylic
waterproofing membranes can be a cost-effective
and long-lasting solution for non-traffic regions
such as a buildings outside walls.
