What Is Blepharitis? Blepharitis is a common
condition in which the edges of the eyelids
become red and swollen. What Are The Types Of
Blepharitis? There are three main types of
blepharitis Anterior blepharitis - In this kind
of blepharitis, the inflammation affects the skin
around your eyelash. Anterior blepharitis can be
caused by Staphylococcus bacteria This is
commonly found on the skin of many people and
does not cause any harm. Due to some unknown
reasons, this bacteria may be triggered and it
can cause swelling of the eyelids. Seborrhoeic
dermatitis It is a condition that causes the
skin to become oily and scaly and sometimes
irritates the eyelids by clogging the meibomian
gland.

Posterior blepharitis - In this kind of
blepharitis, the inflammation affects the
meibomian gland which is behind the surface of
the eyelash. Posterior blepharitis is caused by
problems with the meibomian gland. The gland gets
blocked by debris, flakes, or inflammation. Someti
mes, a blockage in the meibomian gland is
associated with a skin condition which is called
rosacea. If an excessive amount of oily substance
is being produced then it may be due to
seborrhoeic dermatitis. Mixed blepharitis  This
is a combination of anterior blepharitis and
posterior blepharitis Remember, blepharitis is
not contagious.
