5 Tips To Maintain Drywall
3
Today, from wherever you pass, a building, an
office, or a home, you will not miss crossing
through a drywall. This is because, drywalls are
cost-effective and offer numerable benefits,
therefore makes up for the popular choice. People
prefer installing this over plaster because these
are fire and water resistant and also lasts
longer. But, heres a trick. These drywalls wont
stay as it is, if left unattended. These
drywalls once installed would require yours as
well as the attention of the drywall contractors
time and again to make them last longer. Here
are some of the tips and tricks that you must
look in to keep the drywalls intact.
4
Dusting
Generally, too, dusting the wall will not do any
wrong to the wall. In order to take care of the
wall, do this regularly to prevent dust from
settling on the wall. You can dust it either by
using a feather duster or a dry cloth. Dusting
the wall daily will keep the dirt away and give
your drywall an appealing look. This practice
will ensure that the wall stays in a good
condition. If your drywall is not painted or
protected, then dusting will prove to be
beneficial. But if your drywall is shielded,
then you can opt to wash it, but carefully.
5
Washing
This is also a crucial step to keep the drywalls
protected but it needs to be done with caution
because the drywalls are vulnerable to water
damage and you must know how much water will
harm or clean your drywall. Washing the drywall
with cellulose sponge is the best option. These
sponges are good at soaking only the small
amount of liquid, therefore these will not harm
your drywall. Heres a warning! As also
mentioned earlier, the drywalls are at a risk of
getting damaged even with droplets of water. So,
you must be very careful in keeping them
protected.
6
Fill holes and indentations
Normal walls or even the drywalls get holes and
thats completely fine. If your drywall gets
hole, that does not mean you will replace the
whole wall just to cover up the hole with the
paint or any other decorative item. Even if you
do this, it would only stay temporarily and may
even make the matter worse, forcing you to
replace the entire drywall later on. But, hello,
only to protect your drywall from further damage
and save you dollars, filling holes would work
wonders. If your drywall has got a small hole,
you can cover it up with the patching compound
and if it is a large hole, it is advisable to
use a joint compound. These compounds in powered
form have a wide-ranging setup time. For medium
sized holes, it is great to use stick-on mesh
patch to cover up the hole. Before you use
these, you should make sure that the wall is
clean before hiding the hole. To fill up the
indentations, all you would require is covering
the drywall with two or three layers of the joint
compound that is used by the builders for taping.
7
Cover the exposed paper
  • The drywall paper may get exposed when you take
off any decorative item. In this case, only the
first layer of the drywall will be removed,
leaving the rest of the layers intact. However,
the brown paper that is left exposed after that
does not look good at all. Before you patch it
up, remember to seal that patch up first and then
move ahead with the next step.
  • Sealing the spot is important because if you will
directly patch up the wall, the water in the
patching material will react with the drywall
paper causing the formation of a bubble, which
will cause more issues in the near future. In
order to seal it first, you should first use
either a shellac-based sealer or oil. After you
are done applying the sealer, wait for it to dry
up and then sand and patch it up. After
following all these steps, you will be left with
nothing but with an ordinary wall repair job.

8
Cracks
With time, your drywalls may get cracks and a
little one would also prove to be fatal for you,
forcing you to replace the entire drywall. But,
just to protect you from getting into any such
hustle, here is what you can do to prevent
cracks. Whether the crack is vertical or
horizontal, first widen the crack carefully and
check if the crack extends further or not and if
the tape has been pulled from the surface or
not. If the tape remains unaffected, it means
the crack was formed by the old compound in the
drywall. Then all that you need to do is fill up
the crack with the new compound. Allow the joint
compound to dry up quickly, wipe away the dust,
and then dust the paint over it. Maintaining a
drywall is simple, only if you clean it and take
care of it on a regular basis. A basic level of
daily maintenance will do the job. But since
such acts are better handled by the experts, it
is always advisable to reach out to the best
ceiling contractors. So, do not wait for your
drywall to turn into a disaster instead contact
the best drywall contractors in Vancouver.
