ABOUT UNIVERSITY
Tezpur University was established back in 1994.
It is situated in Tezpur, Assam. In fact, it was
set up by Parliament Act 1994. In total, the
university has four streams. Namely, these are
Humanities and Social Science, Engineering,
Science and Management. These streams are further
subdivided into departments and schools. For
instance, under the school of engineering, there
is a department of Applied Science, Department of
Design, Department of Energy, etc.

HISTORY
Tezpur University is a central university. In
1994, it was established by the Act of
Parliament. The then PM of India, P.V. Narshimha
Rao, was present at the inauguration of the
university. Initially, the university did not
have its campus. So, it operated from Darrang
College and Tezpur Law College. Later, it got the
approved land at Napaam, Assam. Tezpur University
offers many courses at the undergraduate,
postgraduate and doctoral levels in various
streams.

INFRASTRUCTURE
Infrastructure is the heart of any institution.
It enables the other parts to work efficiently by
supplying them with modern tools and technology.
Similarly, the infrastructure at Tezpur
University is its strength. It has a modern
infrastructure. So, students can focus on the
studies more efficiently. It provides academic,
residential as well as recreational facilities.
It also has a huge campus. In total, the campus
has an area of 262 acres. Mentioned below are the
other noteworthy features of Tezpur University

Library The central library serves as a
repository of information of any institution.
Hence, it remains one of the focal points of
infrastructure. The central library at Tezpur
University is well-stacked as well as spacious.
In fact, it was set up as late as 1994.
Currently, the library has more than 86000 books.
Moreover, it has more than 10,000 journals.
Besides, it provides access to book databases,
journal databases, e-resources from anywhere on
the campus. Throughout these years, the library
has been updating itself. For instance, the
library now provides digital access to the
academic world of Tezpur University. Moreover,
there is a modern library management software
called KOHA that manages it.

Computer center In modern times, computer
literacy is most important. Moreover, technology
has been playing a very big role in shaping our
world. So, Tezpur University has a
well-maintained computer lab. For instance, it
has the latest desktop PCs. Above all, the
computers are connected to WiFi all the time. In
other words, it has all the needed tools and
technology for imparting high-quality education.
Moreover, it has a modern video conferencing
facility. In total, it can accommodate up to 70
people at a time.

Medical facilities Health care facilities were
introduced in Tezpur University in 1995. Above
all, these facilities are available to staff,
faculty, and students. The health center offers
many facilities. For instance, there are OPD
services, ECG machines, X-Ray machines, ten beds,
etc. Moreover, the medicines are available free
of cost. Currently, the health center functions
under the supervision of Dr. J.S.Goswami.

Hostel and Accommodation Hostels are an important
part of the infrastructure. In fact, They serve
as a second home for students. Hence, they should
have all the basic amenities. There is separate
accommodation for boys as well as girls. In
total, there are more than ten hostels on the
campus five hostels are for boys and seven for
girls. The rooms are sufficient furnishing and as
well as they are also airy. For instance, there
is a wardrobe, bed, chair, etc.

Yoga center Medicines heal the physical body yoga
heals the soul of it. Moreover, Yoga and
meditation help one connect with the inner world
that we carry within ourselves. Hence, the Tezpur
University encourages its students to practice
Yoga. In 2010, the Tezpur University added Yoga
to the list of additional courses.
Guesthouse Recently, in 2009, the Tezpur
University, Napaam inaugurated its Modern guest
house. In total, the guest house has 45 rooms.
Besides, it has round-the-clock access to a
wireless internet connection. Moreover, it has a
total area of 2 acres. Additionally, there is a
20 room big annex of the guest house as well.

Sports facilities Sports are an essential part of
extra-curricular activity. In fact, they help in
building concentration as well as leadership
qualities of students. Moreover, sports are
necessary for getting rid of mental exhaustion.
Hence, the vital role of sports cannot be ignored
in the development of a students mind and
body. Tezpur University had realized this fact
very soon. In fact, its sports department was set
up as early as 1995. However, it took time to set
up the sports complex as the university did not
have its own campus then. Later, the sports
complex was set up in 1997 with all the necessary
infrastructures. For instance, it has a
basketball court, football ground, badminton
court, volleyball court, tennis court, and a gym.

COURSES OFFERED
Bachelors Tezpur University offers many courses
at the undergraduate level in various streams.
For instance, the streams that Tezpur University
offers are Science, Humanities and Social
Studies, Management, Engineering, etc. Namely,
B.Tech, B.Ed, B.Voc, etc. are available in many
specializations as well. Masters The Tezpur
University offers many postgraduate courses. For
instance, M.tech. is available in many
specializations Information Technology,
Mechanical Engineering, Energy Technology, etc.
Besides, there are many other postgraduate
courses. Namely, MBA, MA, LLM, Master of Tour and
Travel Management, M.sc, etc., and many more are
options to choose from.

COURSES OFFERED
Ph.D. For the Ph.D. courses, the candidate has
to get his Masters degree from a reputed Tezpur
University as well, as he should have a min. of
55 marks. Tezpur University offers a Doctorate
in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics
and communication, Energy, Chemical Science,
Molecular Biology, Physics, Mass Communication,
and Journalism, etc.
