Introduction
  • Let us run you through the process of publishing
    a website quickly on a cPanel WHM server that
    has been newly-provisioned. The most essential
    steps that are needed to publish a website are
    covered here.
  • cPanel WHM is an extremely popular suite of
    tools that automates web hosting tasks for Linux
    Operating system, through the aid of a simple
    graphical user interface. Web hosting is a
    service provided by web hosting companies for
    making websites accessible. There are many

Log in to WHM
  • The following steps need to be carried out for
    logging in to WHM.
  • Navigate to the URL, https//IPADDRESS2087/
  • In it, the term, IPADDRESS represents the IP
    address of your server.
  • The root username and password need to be
    entered.
  • Click Log in.
  • You need to agree to the software license terms.
    Post that, a new interface appears.
  • Your email address needs to be entered in the
    text box, Email Address.
  • Your default nameservers need to be entered in
    the text boxes, Nameservers. These should be
    provided by your hosting service provider or by
    your networking provider.
  • Click Finish. At this stage, the WHM Home
    interface appears.

    buy a cPanel license for cPanel WHM. A free
    trial license is automatically provided for 15
    days to new installations.

Set the Hostname
  • The hostname of your server helps in uniquely
    identifying it on the Internet. Configuring the
    hostname of your server is usually done by your
    hosting service provider. It is the provisioning
    process part. At times, you might need to carry
    out the following steps manually
  • Navigate to the Change Hostname interface of WHM.
  • WHM gtgt Home gtgt Networking Setup gtgt Change
    Hostname
  • Enter a new hostname in the given text box, if
    you want to change the hostname.
  • Click Change. You will receive a confirmation
    message.
  • Click Add an A entry for your hostname. A new
    interface appears.
  • Click Add Entry. You will receive a confirmation
    message.
  • A warning with regard to a change to the SSL
    certificate of the server might be displayed by
    your browser after you have changed the hostname
    of the server.

Confirm the DNS Resolvers
  • The DNS resolvers of your server enable your
    server to look up other sites IP addresses on
    the Internet. The resolvers of your server are
    configured by most of the hosting service
    providers in their provisioning process. But
    there can be situations where you might need to
    carry out the steps manually.
  • You need to perform the following steps for
    configuring DNS resolver on your server
  • Navigate to the Resolver Configuration interface
    of WHM.
  • WHM gtgt Home gtgt Networking Setup gtgt Resolver
    Configuration
  • Click Proceed.
  • The desired IPv4 or IPv6 addresses need to be
    entered in the text boxes that are meant for the
    Primary Resolver and the Secondary Resolver. Here
    it needs to be mentioned that if you do not
    receive this information from your hosting
    service provider, then Googles nameservers can
    be used.
  • If you want to configure a third resolver, then
    that IP address needs to be entered in the text
    box, Tertiary Resolver.
  • Click Continue. You will receive a confirmation
    message.
  • The records of errors within the task queue of a
    user are contained in this directory.

Configure Nameservers
  • You can host your own DNS entries for sites with
    the aid of your servers nameservers. This lets
    you control the branding of those domains that
    are on your server. It is recommended that the
    nameserver software be set up on your server.
    This ensures full functionality of services.
  • You should carry out the following steps in order
    to select and configure nameservers on your
    server
  • Navigate to the Nameserver Selection interface of
    WHM.
  • WHM gtgt Home gtgt Service Configuration gtgt
    Nameserver Selection
  • A nameserver software needs to be selected.
  • Click Save.
  • Navigate to the Edit DNS Zone interface of WHM.
  • WHM gtgt Home gtgt DNS Functions gtgt Edit DNS Zone
  • Select the zone file of your hostname and then
    click Edit.
  • The A records for NS1 and NS2 entries need to be
    added.
  • The NS entries to your nameservers need to be
    changed.
  • Click Save. You will receive a confirmation
    message.
  • Visit the website of your registrar.
  • The nameserver records for your main domain need
    to be changed to point to your own nameservers.

Set Up Reverse DNS
  • PTR (Pointer Records) are used by Reverse DNS for
    converting IP addresses to domain names. It is
    highly recommended that the PTR record of the
    primary IP address of your server be set to the
    hostname of your server. The authority for PTR
    records is not delegated by many hosting service
    providers to their clients. In such a case, you
    need to contact your hosting service provider for
    assistance.

Configure WordPress Manager
  • You need to carry out the following steps if you
    want to use WordPress for creating your website
  • Navigate to the Install cPAddons Site Software
    interface in WHM.
  • WHM gtgt Home gtgt CPanel gtgt Install cPAddons Site
    Software
  • Select the checkbox that is next to the WordPress
    addon.
  • Click Update cPAddon Config. You will receive a
    confirmation message.

Create the Account
  • You must perform the below-mentioned steps in
    order to create the cPanel account
  • Navigate to the Create a New Account interface in
    WHM.
  • WHM gtgt Home gtgt Account Functions gtgt Create a New
    Account
  • A domain name needs to be entered in the
    appropriate text box. A username is suggested by
    the interface.
  • A password needs to be entered and confirmed. A
    strong password can be generated by the Password
    Generator.
  • A contact email address needs to be entered for
    the account.
  • Click Create. You will receive a confirmation
    message.

Log in to cPanel
  • Click Go to cPanel for quickly logging in to the
    cPanel interface of your new site.

Create an Email Account
  • This part can be skipped for now, if you plan on
    using another mail provider for your site.
  • Carry out the following steps for creating an
    email account for your site
  • Navigate to the Email Accounts interface in
    cPanel.
  • cPanel gtgt Home gtgt Email gtgt Email Accounts
  • Click Create.
  • A username needs to be entered in the appropriate
    text box.
  • A password needs to be set in the appropriate
    text box.
  • The storage space for the account needs to be
    entered in the appropriate text box.
  • Click Create.

Build Your Website
  • You need to perform the following steps if you
    plan on running a WordPress site
  • Navigate to the WordPress Manager interface of
    cPanel.
  • cPanel gtgt Home gtgt Applications gtgt WordPress
    Manager
  • Click New Site.
  • Enter that domain on which the site has to be
    installed. It can be installed on a subdomain as
    well.
  • Click Install. A success message along with the
    username and the password for WordPress is
    displayed by the interface.
  • Navigate to your domain.
  • The WordPress default page appears.
  • Click the Log In link.
  • The username and the password need to be entered.
  • Now you are ready to set up your WordPress site.
