The relationship between the two giants of Asia
Country and the world, has been progressing at a
tremendous pace. Both the countries have
witnessed their share of ups-and-downs over the
years. India and China today represent Asias two
largest and most dynamic emerging economies
which are emerging as new trend setters in
international trade relations. The history of
bilateral relations between India and China
dates to start in 1980s.

The initial process of dialogue initiated by both
governments at that point of time was quite
helpful in identifying the common trade
interests. Efforts were initiated to make the
most of their economic strengths to further the
economy relations between India and China. In
the year 1989, India and china relationship
entered into a Trade Agreement, which provided
them with the status of Most Favored Nation
(MFN) in the world. It was in 1993 that the
India and China got involved in a full-fledged
bilateral trade relation. India Export Data
shows the year 1994 marked the new beginning of
a new era in the India and China economic trade
relations. In this year, a big decision was taken
a double Taxation Agreement was signed between
India and China. The government of both the
countries also took the necessary initiative to
turn into trade dialogue partners in the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
In 2004, Bangkok Agreement was signed the
between the two countries India and China. Under
this agreement both India and china offered some
trade benefits preferences to each other. India
provided preferences on tariff for 221 products
export from India. In 2004, India and China
entered into a bilateral agreement to initiate
open border trade via the Silk Route. The India
and China two countries have also shown interest
to take part in a multilateral trade system as
per the World Trade Organization commitments.
China has already been the top trading partners
of India in 2021. The economic relation between
the two countries is one of the most significant
bilateral relations

in the contemporary global economic scenario and
this trend is expected to continue in the years
to come. In 2021, China is Indias largest
trading partner, whereas India is within the top
ten of Chinas trading partner.
India and China Trade Data The rapid expansion
of India-China bilateral trade since the
beginning of this century propelled China to
emerge as our largest goods trading partner by
2008, a position which China Customs Data
continues to hold today. Since beginning of the
current decade, bilateral trade between the two
countries recorded exponential growth. In 2017
and 2018, the bilateral trade has registered
robust two-digit growth. In the year 2019, India
was the 12th largest trade partner of China. The
total bilateral trade registered a reduction of
2.93 year on year to reach US 92.89 billion.
Indias exports to China decreased by 4.55 y-o-y
to US 17.97 billion, and Indias imports from
China also witnessed a drop by 2.54 to US
74.92 billion. Due to the impact of COVID this
year, the overall trade with China saw a
reduction of 13.1 in Jan-Sept 2020 (USD 60.5
billion) as compared to the same period in 2019
(USD 69.7 billion).

Indias total trade with the United States was
8.05 billion in January, a change of 1.91
percent from the same month one year ago. The
change in exports was -2.11 percent and the
change in imports was 4.24 percent. India ranked
?10 among U.S. trade partners in January. It had
ranked ?8 for the same month last year. The top
three U.S. exports by value in January were Oil,
(2) Diamonds, not mounted, and (3) LNG, other
petroleum gases. The top three USA Import Data
from India, also by value, were Diamonds, not
mounted, (2) Medicines in individual dosages,
and (3) Linens for bed, bath, and kitchen. By
tonnage, the top three U.S. exports were (1) Oil,
(2) Coal, briquettes, and (3) LNG, other
petroleum gases. The top three U.S. imports, also
by tonnage, were (1) Gasoline, other fuels, (2)
Granite, marble, other stones, and (3) Unglazed
ceramic flags, paving, hearth tiles. India And
Chile Trade Data Negotiations for further
expansion of a preferential trade agreement
(PTA) between India and Chile are in the final
stages and both the countries would include
about 400 more products under the pact with an
aim to boost economic ties, an official said.
The two countries had signed a preferential trade
agreement on March 8, 2006, and it came into
force from August 2007. In 2016,

they expanded the scope of the agreement by
including more products. Currently about 2,000
goods are covered under the pact. Indias
exports to Chile Trade Data include transport
equipment, pharmaceuticals, yarn of polyester
fibers, tyres and tubes, manufacture of metals,
articles of apparel, organic/inorganic and agro
chemicals, textiles, readymade garments, plastic
