14. Clinical trial and research is now a
significant business worldwide. With over 100
companies currently conducting clinical trials
and more than 100 drugs are approved by the
Central Drugs Standard Control Organization
each year.

What Is Clinical Trial

• A term Clinical refers to the medical care of
  actual patients. And Clinical trials are a form
  of medical research that follows a defined
  protocol that has been developed to answer a
  specific patient care question.
• In a clinical trial, participants receive
  specific interventions according to the
  investigators research plan or protocol. And
  these inventions could be anything it may be
  medical products, such as drugs or devices
  procedures or changes to participants behavior,
  such as diet.

• Phases of Clinical Trials

Phase 0

• It refers to analyzing the small doses of a new
  drug in a few people. This trial test is used to
  collect the preliminary data. It includes whether
  the drug reaches the tumor, how it reacts with
  the body or how cancer cells react with the
  vaccine or drug.

Phase 1

• Conduct a vaccine test on a small group of
  people nearby 20 to 80 participants to analyze
  the safety.

Phase 2
If drugs well react in phase 1, then it goes for
testing in phase 2. This clinical trial assesses
an intervention in a larger group of people to
determine whether it works as efficacy and to
further evaluate its safety.

Phase 3

• This clinical trial assesses an intervention in a
  broad range of participant groups. It provides
  further information about the safety and effects
  of an intervention. Most health
  organizations conduct clinical trials and
  consider up to all three phases to approve a new
  drug or vaccine.

Types of Clinical Trials

• Treatment Research Trials
• These types of clinical trials generally involve
  an intervention. It includes medication,
  psychotherapy, or new approaches to surgery or
  radiation therapy.

• Prevention Trials 
• This type comes into use to improve prevention or
  recurrence of the disease. 

• Double-Blind Clinical Trial
• Trial in which neither the subject nor the
  observer knows which treatment is being
  administered.

Supportive care  Examining the preventive
procedures to improve comfort and quality of life
for patients with chronic conditions.
Basic Science The primary trial to analyze or
examine how an invention works. 
Screening Method of identifying certain diseases
or health conditions.
Diagnostic Trial to identify the technique and a
procedure to diagnose any disease or health
condition.  
Health services research  Analyze the delivery,
process, management, organization, or financing
of healthcare.

Why Are Clinical Trials Done?

• Well, they are done for several reasons. A few of
  them are considered below
• To analyze whether the drug is safe and effective
  for people to use.  
• Evaluate one or more diagnosis interventions that
  might identify or diagnose a particular disease
  or condition.
• Explore supportive care procedures to enhance the
  quality of life of people with significant health
  issues. 
• To know which population you can safely use the
  treatment for which the treatment has not been
  tested before.
• Study the use of standard treatment in various
  ways to be more effective and easier to use
  without any specific side effects.
