HOW TO WRITE EXPOSITORY ESSAY
2
WHAT DO YOU UNDERSTAND BY AN EXPOSITORY ESSAY?
The expository essay goes by its name. It exposes
different phases of the topic chosen for the
essay. Using evidence and facts for sharing
required information this essay type is a vital
one. From journalism to business several
different areas are using this type of
writing. The expository essay makes sure that the
balanced and detailed version of the topic is
shared with the readers. It does not support any
aspect of the topic the writer has to keep a
neutral opinion about the topic.
3
PURPOSE OF THE EXPOSITORY ESSAY
An expository essay shares the vital aspect of
information about the topic. One topic might have
different phases and any of the subjects. And
with expository techniques, every aspect can be
described to the readers This essay type
provides balanced information about the topic by
keeping the opinion of the writer null. No for
or against is required for presenting the topic
to the readers. The purpose of this essay is to
provide topic information to the reader
supporting it with evidence. With the help of an
expository essay, one can easily present the
complex topic to the readers.

HOW TO WRITE AN EXPOSITORY ESSAY?
Writing an expository essay needs to pay
attention to the format or the structure. Start
by working on the outline of the essay. A
well-organized essay needs to be written in a
specific format. This helps in the dispersion of
the information evenly and inflowing
manner. Before you start with the essay, always
jot down the specific information which you need
to expand. Brainstorm over the topic and then
plan the individual paragraphs. The structure of
the essay must be in your head and then you must
know what to mention at which place. Generally,
an expository essay is a five-paragraph structure
which we will be discussing now.
5
INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH
In the five-paragraph structure the first one in
the list is the introduction. The first paragraph
includes the introduction of the topic that the
essay is focusing on. It states the hook which
grabs the attention of the readers. A thesis
statement is also present in this paragraph The
thesis has to be simple yet effective and capable
of supporting the coming paragraphs. Because the
coming paragraphs will talk about a different
aspect of the topic which is supported by the
thesis. Introduction hook points also must be
relevant to the topic.
6
BODY PARAGRAPHS
There are generally three body paragraphs in the
expository essay. These paragraphs talk about the
different issues of the topic. The paragraphs
help in supporting the thesis statement by
providing relevant evidence. The factual
information supports the content of the body
paragraph. As the essay does not include the
opinion of the writer, the content includes all
phases of the topic. But it should be supporting
the thesis of your topic. Else, the content will
become irrelevant to your topic. The paragraphs
are framed in a way that even the complex topic
has been discussed with ease.
7
CONCLUDING PARAGRAPH
  • The information already presented in the body
paragraph goes into the concluding part.
  • The only difference is that it includes the recap
    version of the topics.
  • The major insights of the essay topic are again
    mentioned here.
  • Writers may not provide any new information or
    evidence in the concluding paragraph.
  • Rather they wrap up the topic by summarizing the
    content written within.
  • This space is also used for re-stating the thesis
    of the essay topic.

8
TYPES OF EXPOSITORY ESSAY
The first type of essay is known as cause and
effect essay. This deals with the topics
showcasing what happened within and how it
happened. The topic can be about any event. The
second type is called compare and contrast
essay. Here, the writer has to compare two
subject types or topics. They have to draw out
the similarities and differences between them
using facts and evidence. The third type is the
descriptive essay. You use facts and figures to
complete the details about the given topic. Don't
