1
An Era of British Impressionism and Some
Mesmerizing Impressionist Painters
British Impressionism was the era of 19th century
artworks, when British painters were influenced
by the artworks of French impressionists and
adapted their painting styles. British
impressionist painters became fond of broken
brushstrokes, depiction of scenes based on
reality and society, and perception with color
and shades in paintings. Many people have the
idea that impressionism art is based from France,
but British painters were too magnificent with
their impressionist artworks. Lets see some of
the features of British impressionism
2
Features of British Impressionism Artworks
Wide Brushstrokes Their artworks focused on the
use of bold and broad brushstrokes for
captivating the quintessence of the object rather
than focusing on the subject. Thick and short
brushstrokes helped the artists with painterly
optical illusion and impulsive improvisation. Sim
ple Subject Matter British impressionists wanted
to focus on capturing quick moments of daily life
as if it was a snapshot. They wanted to depict
everyday movement of life rather than any complex
subjective issue. Open Composition British
artists in the 19th century wanted to extend out
their artworks from a desired frame to get a true
outcome of their imagination and depiction. This
helped them with the use of vibrant color and
shades for the paintings.
3
Accuracy with Colors and Shades Painters of that
era were more reluctant to use bright, radiant
colors and shades for their paintings. They used
deep and dark shadows to give contrast to the
painting background. They used shadows and colors
in a precise way to make a perfect
painting. Practice of Outside Painting The
practice of painting outdoors helped the British
impressionists with better effects and use of
colors and shades to depict their ideas in the
artwork. It also helped them with the vibrancy of
the color for the painting. Now lets learn about
some mesmerizing impressionist painters-

About Eugene Galien Laloue Eugene Galien Laloue
was a remarkable and magnificent French
impressionist artist who was popular for his
street paintings, drawn specifically during
autumn or winter. His street paintings depicted
crowded places with sidewalks and avenues at
places like the capital monument. During the era
of impressionism, some of his notable works are
En Normandie, Les Bouquinistes, and Bords de
la Meuse.
5
About Marcel Cosson Marcel Cosson was a French
impressionist artist, who won awards and medals
for outstanding artworks. His artworks depicted
spectacular subjects such as the ballet, opera,
theatre and circus. He mostly painted women,
everyday life of a Parisian and dance. His works
were extremely rare and unique for that era. His
style and techniques of artworks shows signs of
him being post-impressionist. He was in love with
theatres and depicted most of the backstage
scenes through his paintings. Some of his notable
works are Les Ballerines, Longchamp Race
Track, and Danseuses. Resource Link
