Hair loss
  • Hair loss in women is just that - when a woman
experiences unexpected, heavy loss of hair.
  • Generally, humans shed between 50 and 100 single
    hairs per day.
  • Hair shedding is part of a natural balance - some
hair fall out while others grow in.
  • When the balance is interrupted - when hair falls
out and less hair grows in - hair loss happens.
  • Hair loss is different than hair shedding.

Medicines for the Hair Loss
  • 1. Minoxidil
  • The Food and Drug Administration approves
Minoxidil to treat hair loss. Sold under the name
Rogaine, as well as other generic brands, people
    can purchase topical Minoxidil over-the-counter.
  • Minoxidil is safe for both males and females, and
people report a high satisfaction rate after
    using it.

2. Light therapy
  • Low-level light therapy may not be sufficient
treatment for hair loss on its own, but it may
act to amplify the effects of other hair loss
    treatments, such as minoxidil.

3. Hormone therapy
  • If hormone imbalances due to menopause, for
example, cause hair loss, doctors may recommend
some form of hormone therapy to correct them.
  • Some possible treatments include birth
control pills and hormone replacement therapy for
    either estrogen or progesterone.

4. Use hair loss shampoos
  • Some minor hair loss may happen due to clogged
    pores on the scalp.
  • Using medicated shampoos designed to clear the
pores from dead skin cells may help promote
    healthy hair.
  • This may help clear minor signs of hair loss.

5. Eat a nutritious diet
  • Eating a healthful diet may support normal hair
    growth, as well.
  • Typically, a healthful diet will contain a wide
variety of foods, including many different
    vegetables and fruits.
  • These provide many essential nutrients and
compounds that help keep skin and hair healthy.

Age for the hair growth and loss
As you hit your 40s and 50s, hair loss becomes
more common. For most women, genetics are to
blame. Once menopause hits, hot flashes start,
and hair loss accelerates. Genetics and
hormones aside, consequences of traumatic hair
care practices tend to catch up with us in these
decades.

1. Genetics
  • The most common reason for hair loss in both men
    and women is genetics.
  • You can inherit the genes for hair loss from one
or both of your parents. In women, hereditary
hair loss usually starts after the age of 40.
Roughly 40 of women have detectable hair loss by
    the age of 50.
  • And less than half of women get through life with
    a full head of hair.

2. Menopause
  • Menopause naturally happens at an average age of
    49 to 51 years.
  • Once menopause starts, a dramatic drop in
estrogen levels causes hair to become thinner
(especially at the top and sides of the scalp)
    and grow more slowly.
  • Some women will also notice more facial hair.
    menopause makes it worse.

 3. Medical conditions
  • Medical conditions can cause or contribute to
    hair loss.
  • Hypothyroidism, anemia, and nutritional
deficiencies are more common in older age and can
    cause hair loss.
