Title: Difference between Disinfectant and Sanitisers

1
DISINFECTANT vs SANITISERS
Consistent cleaning, disinfecting and sanitising
are the best actions against viruses and disease.
But what exactly is the difference. How do they
differ?
DISINFECTANT
SANITISERS
Disinfectant uses chemicals to kill germs on
surfaces and objects. Some common disinfectants
are bleach and alcohol solutions. You need to
leave the industrial disinfectant on the surfaces
and objects for a certain period of time to kill
the germs. Disinfecting does not necessarily
clean dirty surfaces or remove germs.
Sanitising could be done by either cleaning,
disinfecting, or both. Sanitizing means that you
are lowering the number of germs to a safe level.
What is considered a safe level depends on public
health standards or requirements at a workplace,
school, etc.
This process kills germs on surfaces with the use
of EPA registered disinfectant chemicals that are
designed and appropriate for specific surfaces.
The CDC requires that these agents kill 99.99 of
infectious bacteria, viruses and fungi within a
5-10 minute period. This is best performed after
cleaning and is recommended for high-touch
surfaces, specially industrial cleaning
equipment. Because this method is more powerful
than sanitizing, it is widely practiced in
healthcare childcare and facilities.
An umbrella term for lowering the number of germs
on a surgace to a safe level. The CDC requires
that sanitisation gel and sanitising products
kill 99.99 of bacteria in under 30 seconds. This
limits the growth of harmful bacteria but is not
known for killing viruses. This is an important
practice in shared spaces such as restaurants,
school, hospitals and businesses. Sanitization
using gel should be conducted several times a day.
Stops the spread of viruses by killing
pathogens. It should always be done when someone
in the house is sick.Only medically-approved
sanitiser spray should be used.
Reduces the number of germs on a
surface. Frequently touched surfaces must be
sanitised often. You need to buy alcohol-based
sanitizers to get the job done
Sanitizers kill certain bacteria, in a specific
period of time. Disinfectants kill certain
bacteria, viruses, mildews, or fungi, in a
specific period of time, and are also regulated
by the EPA. No matter what differences they have
both of them help us stay safe and clean from
disease.
