• All my life, I've been around Yerba Buddy. I
  started consuming it daily about 10 years ago and
  it caught my imagination and fuelled my quest to
  learn and appreciate the plant, the culture and
  its benefits. On my recent trip to the
  Multinational Yerba Mate Festival in the Capital
  of the world of mate drinking, Apostoles
  Misiones, I had the chance to meet and talk to
  several people whose livelihood is yerba mate. Do

• I talked to agronomists, soil technicians,
  drainage engineers, farmers, pickers, and every
  one of them was a drinker on a regular basis. To
  many citizens in northern Argentina, southern
  Brazil and Paraguay, Mate is a way of life.

• Many South Americans drink this balanced infusion
  as the energy drink of preference in a gourd that
  has been dried and hollowed and eaten through a
  filtered straw, a bombilla, the only way they
  know how. The practice is second nature to the
  masses, but a wonderful heritage is steeped in

• Within your gourd, you put a tiny quantity (about
  5-7 tablespoons) of the herb. The gourd would
  dictate the quantity. You moisten the herb with
  warm water inside the gourd, then when the herb
  has consumed warm water and is wet, you placed
  the bombilla in the herb inside the gourd, and
  you spill hot water, not boiling water.

• They could never boil the bath. The Las Marias
  experts from the Taragui Mate maker advised me
  that the water could never be hotter than 75
  degrees Celsius or around 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  The plant has vitamins A, B1, B2, and vitamin C,
  as well as magnesium and calcium that exist
  naturally. One of the most advantageous features
  of this infusion is that, by default, it is
  alkaline, meaning it has an alkalizing impact
  when you consume the infusion. It is a strong
  anti-oxidant and a wonderful attitude elevator.
• I talked at length and questioned several people
  there and I was surprised at the trust that
  everybody has regarding the qualities and
  soundness of drinking this infusion, from the
  soil experts to the tareferos, who are the men
  and women who collect the leaves of the Ilex
  paraguariensis tree.

• I met many local producers and was informed of
  the standard practices that were practiced by the
  INYM, which is the Yerba Mate National Institute,
  and the Argentine Agriculture Agency, which
  manages and controls the industry by the
  inspection of certifications. You may find more
