Title: Aneurysm Symptoms, Causes & Treatment

1
Advanced Vascular Care
  • Advanced vascular care with Dr. Ahsan Ali is a
complete vascular service encompassing all facets
    of vascular pathology.
  • Various vascular conditions are treated and
    include aneurysms, arterial occlusive disease,
    Thoracic outlet syndrome, Hemodialysis access,
vasculitis as well as acquired and/or congenital
    venous disorders.
  • Surgical treatment is customized to each patient
and may involve open surgery or angioplasty/stent
    or both.
  • Vascular issues can be urgent. Hence, at Advanced
vascular care, we see patients sometimes within
24-48 hours. There is no 3-month wait at our
    clinic.

Aneurysm
  • An aneurysm is the growth of an artery caused by
    weakness in the arterial wall.
  • Usually, there are no symptoms, but a severed
aneurysm could lead to fatal problems.
  • An aneurysm indicates a weakening of an artery
wall, which creates a bulge, or distention, of
    the artery.
  • Most aneurysms do not exhibit or show symptoms
    and are not dangerous.
  • An aneurysm could occur in any part of the body.
  • Some aneurysms, though less common, are present
from the time of birth as an arterial defect.

3
Types of Aneurysms
  • Aortic aneurysm - This happens in your aorta. It
can be linked with hardening of the arteries,
also known as atherosclerosis. It may be an
inherited condition or a complication of high
    blood pressure or smoking.
  • Cerebral aneurysm - Cerebral aneurysm also known
as a berry aneurysm, you get this kind in the
wall of a blood vessel in your brain. Smoking
raises your risk of getting one.
  • Ventricular aneurysm - This is a bulge in the
wall of your heart. A previous heart attack is
the most common cause. In rare cases, a severe
chest injury can also lead to it.
  • Saccular aneurysms - This is the most common type
of brain aneurysm. They bulge out in a dome shape
from the main artery. Theyre connected to that
    artery by a narrow neck.
  • Fusiform aneurysms - This type of aneurysms
arent common as saccular aneurysms. They dont
pouch out in a dome shape. Instead, they make a
widened spot in the blood vessel.

4
Symptoms Causes
  • Symptoms do not generally happen unless an
    aneurysm bursts.
  • An unruptured aneurysm might form blood clots,
which might go on to block smaller blood vessels.
  • Some people with abdominal aneurysms report
abdominal pain, lower back pain, or a pulsating
    feeling in the abdomen.
  • Thoracic aneurysms could affect nearby nerves and
    other blood vessels, potentially causing
swallowing and breathing difficulties, and pain
in the jaw, chest, and upper back.
  • An aneurysm caused by vasculitis or blood vessel
swelling, a person might experience fever,
    malaise, or weight loss.

5
Aneurysm Treatment
  • Not all cases of unruptured aneurysm need active
    treatment.
  • A ruptured aneurysm needs emergency surgery.
Without immediate repair, patients have a low
    chance of survival.
  • A large or rapidly growing aortic aneurysm is
more likely to need surgery, either Open surgery
to fit a synthetic or endovascular stent-graft
    surgery.
  • In the case of a brain aneurysm, the surgeon will
normally operate only if there is a high risk of
    rupture.

6
Risk factors
  • A number of factors can contribute to weakness in
an artery wall and increase the risk of a brain
aneurysm or aneurysm rupture. Some of these risk
factors develop over time others are present at
    birth.
  • Older Age
  • Cigarette Smoking
  • High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
  • Drug Abuse, Particularly The Use Of Cocaine
  • Heavy Alcohol Consumption
  • Smoking Tobacco
  • Hypertension, Or High Blood Pressure
  • Poor Diet
  • Inactive Lifestyle
  • Obesity
