What is STEM education, and why is it important?
STEM education, known for more focus on Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Maths, is a program
designed to integrate multiple classes to provide
opportunities in understanding science concepts
in a more practical manner. STEM activities
provide hands-on and minds-on lessons for the
students, helping them learning Math and Science
in a fun and exciting way. Importance of STEM
education The reach of STEM education does not
limit to a classroom. Scientific, Technological,
and Mathematical knowledge is integral in
todays world for different carriers. The
importance of this teaching can be explained as
under S TEM sparks general creativity STEM-relat
ed subjects help in broadening the horizon of a
mind. Learning through a scientific way ensures
development to learn techniques of trial and
error. The mind becomes imaginative and becomes
eager to explore more. A bu Dhabi Indian School
provides STEM education in a simplistic form and
is focused only on the pure facts of mathematics
and science. Research shows that children develop
an interest in STEM education at an average age
of eight. The teachers focus on a
multidisciplinary education system for young
children, incorporating STEM techniques in their
behavior to make children robust to face future
life challenges. T he world is dependent on STEM
education STEM is important because the whole
world depends and revolves all-around this
technique. The economy, our general well-being,
all day-to-day activities, is backed by Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Maths. STEM-related
knowledge helps us to learn about our surrounding
environment and the society we are living in. I
ncreasing demand There is an increasing demand
for STEM graduates, and it is predicted that 80
of the jobs created in the next decade will
require some form of math and science skills. It
is advisable for schools to provide funding to
build STEM into their curriculum, inspiring the
next generation of coders. Many STEM companies
are even working with schools to help them set-up
STEM centers and labs with upcoming technologies
like Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. S
kills derived from STEM education STEM-based
education teaches children more than science and
mathematics concepts. The focus on real-world
applications helps develop a variety of skill
sets, including 21st-century skills. Problem-solvi
ng, critical thinking, creativity, curiosity,
decision making, entrepreneurship, etc. are
2
the other set of skills a STEM education provides
to the children. These skills go a long way in
preparing students to be innovative and be
successful in their carrier paths. S TEM is
vital for non-STEM jobs as well The scope of STEM
education goes beyond a classroom, and apart from
STEM-related professions like Scientific and
Technological, knowledge is an integral part of
todays world for other carriers as well. A
well-versed STEM-educated child is supposed to
perform well in carriers like journalism,
teaching, arts, etc. Every job includes a
financial aspect, thus proving the importance of
Math. As we are living in a digital age, so
technology is also important in all fields. Even
if one ends up for his carrier in humanities and
arts, computer skills are something one should be
familiar with.
