Title: Cold Prevention Strategies That Parents Should Try

1
Cold Prevention Strategies That Parents Should
Try
2
  • It is already that time of the year when everyone
around seems to be coughing or sneezing,
including the children at your young childs
    playschool, day care, or school.
  • So, what could parents do in order to keep their
    kids cold-free?
  • Here are some great strategies that parents need
to consider, along with some myth-busting.
  • One of the best and simplest things that parents
can do in order to prevent cold and cough is
    using effective hand-washing techniques, suggests
a teacher at the nursery school in Bur Dubai.

3
  • The reasons why proper hand washing techniques is
so important to prevent colds is that the virus
that causes common cold often get into ones body
when one touches his/her eyes, nose, or mouth,
thus contracting the virus from their hands into
    their body.
  • Washing the hands with water and soap for at
least thirty seconds can help prevent catching
cold virus and germs from spreading.

4
  • Although covering up the mouth while sneezing is
surely a polite gesture that one can make, it is
not as effective this is because, unless an
infected person sneezed directly in the other
persons face, it is hard to contract the cold
virus through the germs suspended in the air.
  • Also, bundling up your kid in the winter months,
while being a great strategy, also wouldnt be
    such an effective cold-prevention strategy.

5
  • There are studies that show that cold and wet
people who are infected with the virus arent any
more likely to get cold sick than someone who is
    already warm.
  • Additionally, kissing your kid goodnight
wouldnt, probably, spread the cold germs,
suggests a caregiver at the day care in Dubai
however, bacteria like one that causes strep
throat could be transmitted this way.

6
  • When good personal-hygiene habits are practices,
one can help prevent cold germs from further
spreading, droplets from the sneezes could land
on countertops, door handles, faucets, toys, and
    similar places
  • So, preventing such germs-filled droplets from
spreading and getting into your kids nose, mouth
    or eyes is the key.
  • Let your kid know that they should avoid sharing
drinks and water bottle, or eating utensils with
    others.

7
  • There isnt any evidence that OTC supplements and
vitamins help with preventing cold and cough.
  • It includes but it is not limited to Vitamin C.
  • And neither does encouraging kids to stay indoors
    help prevent cold.
  • What makes sense, suggests a teacher at the play
school in Dubai, is keeping your kid away from
those who are already sick, and sanitizing your
    kids environment.

8
  • In case your kid isnt able to wash his/her hand
with water and soap, then using alcohol-based
sanitizers are a great choice too.
  • If you kid does catch cold, keep him/her away
from other people who arent sick (especially the
ones who have poor immunity) and also ensure that
your kid gets lots of rest and make them drink
    ample amount of fluids.

9
  • Consult your kids pediatrician regarding using
cold medications although it couldnt possible
make the cold go away faster, but it could surely
help provide relief from the symptoms.
