If you think of writing a tender proposal as a
chore then that is exactly what it will become. A
time-consuming and unsatisfying chore. The direct
result of this, is a lack lustre, inaccurate and
unsatisfactory tender proposal. Knowing how and
where to begin can make the process seem a little
less daunting.
3
How to begin
- Research all the facts, The competitors and
the buyer. Know what the buyer is asking for.
Think about whether it is something you provide.
Ensure you can realistically provide the goods or
services. Know your competitors. Have a think
about what you can offer that they do not. Know
who the buyer is. Research what they do, who they
service, what goods or services they provide and
require.
4
- Brainstorm ideas. There is a lot of
information you will need to provide so to begin
with a brainstorming session is a great idea.
Everything you know and everything you need to
research more.
5
-Discuss with colleagues. Tender Writing can be
a time-consuming process which can use a lot of
resources. Your colleagues could prove to be a
great resource. Some may have experience in
tender writing or have previous dealings with the
buyer and can provide you with inside
information.
6
Planning and Structure
- Decide on a format And structure and stick to
it through the entire proposal. An unclear and
choppy tender proposal can be confusing to the
reader, and easily be overlooked for a simpler
more concise proposal.
7
- Have all the information You require before
you start to write. Read all the requirements for
tender carefully. Ensure you have everything you
need to address every one of the buyers
requirements.
8
- Arrange the content So you have a logical
beginning, middle and end. Take the time to
construct a coherent proposal. - Be concise.
The buyer will appreciate if your tender
proposal gets straight to the point as they may
have hundreds of tenders to read.
9
- Ensure your content Is focused on you and what
you can offer the buyer. Stop writing
occasionally to re-read the buyers requirements.
This will ensure that you stay focused. - Never
lose sight Of the desired outcomes. These
outcomes will help keep you focused.
10
- Take some time before editing. As with any
professional writing, it is always a good idea to
take a break between writing a document and
editing. Fresh eyes will make an enormous
difference.
