Divorce Mediators in Sand Diego
  • Mediation takes less time, promotes privacy,
costs less money, and gives more control over the
result of your divorce than the contested court
system. But it doesnt always work for every
couple, especially if your spouse is
intentionally hiding money, determined to fight
you, or just refuses to mediate. Otherwise,
mediation is a feasible way to resolve your
divorce. Solana Beach divorce mediators share 5
practical tips to help you work the mediation
    process.

3
Choose the Right Mediator
  • All mediators and their working styles are not
equal some are better at handling difficult
financial agreements and some are better at
    handling seriously conflicted emotional matters.
Some will mediate situations involving domestic
violence and some will not. If your case seems
complicated in some sort or involves unique
issues, make sure you find a mediator who is
qualified and experience to handle your
situation. Otherwise, your case may flounder
simply because your mediator couldnt efficiently
navigate you through the specific points in your
    case.

4
Keep the Lawyers Out
  • Attorneys are trained to be advocates and are
used to fighting in the court, so their sole
focus is on winning, regardless of the cost and
your feelings. But unfortunately, all these
skills that make them shine in court can make
them a disaster in mediation. Instead of helping
couples reach an agreement, most (not all)
lawyers only fuel the fight. Though having a
lawyer for legal advice is important, involving
then during the mediation session is not likely a
    good idea.

5
Do Your Homework
  • If your mediator asks you to bring financial
documents, provide it. If you need to get pension
information, property appraisal or know about
school district boundaries so you can know where
you will live after divorce to keep your children
in the same school, just do it. You cannot argue
about anything you dont know. If you and your
spouse dont work on the tasks you need to so you
can move forward in your mediation, you will stay
    where you are.

6
Understand Your Spouses Needs and Wants Before
Mediation
  • You know your partner better than the mediator in
terms of what is important for him or her, his or
her needs and wants in the divorce, is he or she
is willing to give up? If you know the answer to
these questions, you can easily trade something
your partner wants for something you want. It may
sound awkward but it is a win-win situation.

7
Be Honest
  • If you want a lawyer to review your agreements
before they are all set, let the mediator know
that. Nothing will kill mediation quicker than
one party constantly changing agreements and
requesting to re-visit the issues that everyone
    thought were settled.
  • It may seem emotionally and mentally challenging
but marital mediation can go smoothly if you take
some time for yourself to collect your thoughts
and work with your spouse to settle all the
    issues peacefully.
