Breast Reduction Surgery
Breast reduction surgery is also known as
reduction mammoplasty. It is a procedure that
allows for the removal of excess breast tissue
resulting from macromastia, or excessively large
breasts. Patients with overly large breasts may
experience self-confidence issues, have a
negative self-image, and suffer from physical
limitations that can affect their overall health.

Procedure of Breast Reduction Surgery
Breast reduction surgery is performed under
general anesthesia. Once the patient has been
numbed, the surgeon will make incisions in the
designated areas. The method used on each patient
will depend on the size of the breasts, the type
of excess tissue present, and the patients
desired outcome. Some patients may be candidates
for liposuction breast reduction if their excess
breast tissue is comprised mostly of fat. After
the incisions have been made, the nipple will
then be repositioned to place it in a more
upright and centered position. If necessary, the
areola will also be trimmed at this point. The
surgeon will then remove excess skin and tissue
and reshape the remaining tissue, ensuring
symmetry between both breasts. After the breasts
have been adjusted and reduced in size, the
incisions will then be sutured shut to complete
the procedure.

Incision Methods
Multiple methods or techniques can be utilized
when performing breast reduction surgery in
NYC. The traditional or anchor incision method
requires three separate incisions on the breast.
This method allows for the most amount of tissue
removal possible and can treat moderate to severe
sagging. The vertical or lollipop incision method
requires two incisions. This method is a newer
technique that allows for mild to moderate tissue
removal, meaning it may not be a viable option
for all patients. Depending on the type of excess
tissue present, liposuction may be used for some
or all of the size reduction. Small incisions are
made in either the inframammary fold beneath the
breast or hidden within the armpit.

Recovery and Results
Once the surgery is done, you must be excited
about the results and how much time you need to
get recovered. So, the answer is you should rest
for about 48 hours. Patients will need to avoid
physical and strenuous activities for one
month. Results will be immediately noticeable,
although they will continue to develop over time.
Final results are typically visible around two to
three months into recovery.
