Summary
  • The deep red color of mahogany flooring can add
warmth and richness to your home. Mahogany wood
is relatively expensive compared with other
hardwoods, so it's important to protect your
investment with special care and cleaning
methods. Too much water and most cleaning
products can damage the finish. Preventative
maintenance is crucial for extending the life of
your mahogany flooring. Care and cleaning methods
    vary depending on the finish.

3
General Care and Cleaning
  • Place rugs or mats near entryways to keep dirt
and debris off of your mahogany flooring. Take
off your shoes when coming in from outside to
avoid tracking dirt across the floor.
  • Sweep your mahogany flooring with a soft-bristled
broom or dust mop several times a week.
Alternatively, you can vacuum your mahogany
flooring with a vacuum on a hard floor setting.
  • Remove tough dirt and stains with a microfiber
cloth lightly dampened with wood floor cleaner or
water. Dry the mahogany flooring immediately with
a towel. If your flooring has a wax finish, buff
it with an electric buffer to restore its shine.
If buffing doesn't work, consider removing and
    replacing the old wax.
  • Remove any old wax buildup with a solvent-based
liquid wax. Apply it to the mahogany flooring
with a soft cloth and wipe away the old finish.
Allow the flooring to dry for at least 20 minutes
before buffing it to a shine with an electric
    buffer.

Outdoor Mahogany
  • Sweep dirt and debris from your mahogany flooring
on a regular basis. Rinse it with a garden hose
    when sweeping is not enough.
  • Clean outdoor decking or flooring at least once a
year with a deck cleaner according to the
    manufacturer's instructions. Apply the deck
sealer with a garden sprayer and scrub it clean
with a stiff-bristled brush. Rinse the flooring
    with a garden hose.
  • Apply a deck sealer or water repellant to your
clean, dry mahogany flooring three or four days
    after cleaning.
