Introduction
In any rear-end accident case, the severity of
damage done can be sensed by the momentum
generated by the force of the collision. The
momentum is determined by multiplying an objects
mass by its velocity. A semi-truck one that is
heavier in comparison to a regular vehicle, can
cause substantially more damage in a wreck than
light motor vehicles.

Semi-Truck Issues
5
1. Semi-trucks face a number of logistical
challenges making it problematic for truck
drivers to avoid an upcoming catastrophe. The
excessive weight urges the driver to start slowly
making it excessively difficult to manoeuvre the
truck. This makes them more prone to read-end
accidents.
6
2. Semi-trucks need more time and distance to
change lanes or stop. The long blind spots of
these trucks make it almost impossible for the
driver to look at traffic conditions that are
very near to the truck. If the driver also tries
to look around the blind spots, he/she may get
distracted and may involve in a rear-end
collision with another vehicle.
7
How can small vehicles remain safe?
8
a) Leave enough distance between your vehicle and
the semi-truck. Large commercial semi-trucks need
greater stopping distance for avoiding obstacles
on the public road. b) Commercial semi-trucks
have long blind spots. So, other drivers sharing
the same road should use headlights and the
signals so that the truck driver can easily
notice them.
9
c) Smaller vehicle drivers should pay attention
to the cargo (if any). They should also keep a
safe distance from trucks carrying flammable or
hazardous materials. d) During the summer
season, tire blowouts can cause potential damage
as the semi-truck can lose control resulting in
an accident. Hence, other car drivers must leave
plenty of space between the trucks and their
personal vehicles.
