Having a dog means having to possibly deal with
fleas and ticks at some point in time. These
pesky critters can cause loads of problems, not
only to your fur baby but to you as well. Hence,
it becomes very essential to get rid of them as
soon as possible, before they infest your entire
home. Many dog parents opt for chews because of
the simple reason that chews are very easy to
administer. And of course, they do a pretty good
job of eliminating and preventing fleas and
ticks. Chews like Bravecto, Credelio, Nexgard and
Simparica are the most commonly used ones, but
then are they safe to use? Lets find out!

  • Chews are arguably the easiest way to get rid
of parasites and at the same time prevent
    re-infestations in your canine friend.
  • But the question arises ARE THEY SAFE? The
answer is not that simple. Hence, let us delve
    deeper into this.

  • Bravecto ,Credelio, Nexgard and Simparica are
    all Isoxazoline products.
  • It means, they all contain pesticides of a new
chemical class that effectively helps in
    destroying fleas and ticks.
  • While this is great news, these products come
with the danger of many minor as well as major
    life-threatening side effects.

The possible side effects of these chews are as
follows-
  • Abnormal Blood Cell Count
  • Appetite Loss
  • Ataxia
  • Convulsions

  • Elevated Blood Urea Nitrogen
  • Excessive Urination
  • Hair Loss
  • Kidney or Liver Damage
  • Lesions
  • Scabs

  • The above list looks pretty long and scary, but
most of them are minor side effects, and the good
thing is they very rarely occur.
  • Many recent reports have suggested that these
chews can be risky to opt for, but in truth they
are extremely safe, provided you use it the
    correct way.

the Right Way

and Simparica, keep these things in mind.
  • Always consult a veterinarian before choosing any
    treatment products.
  • Puppies below a certain age (differs from product
to product) should not be given these chews.
Hence, read the product label very carefully
    before administering.
  • Dogs with a history of seizures, allergies, etc
should not be given such products.
  • Never feed your canine these chews if they are
    expired.
  • Never ever skip a dose. It could be harmful.
