Title: ETFE – The Material Of The Future - Tuflite Polymers

1
ETFE is a material that is rising in popularity
and preference. Engineers have always been on the
lookout for new technologies and materials, with
decrease in price. Speaking about the
construction industry, stone and lumber were the
first materials used for constructing buildings.
Then came iron and steel. For transparent
buildings, glass was the traditional material
used. But now, it is ETFE foil roof that has
taken over.
How ETFE saw its popularity?
ETFE was developed more than 40 years ago by
DuPont. But, it never saw popularity
then. Looking at the benefits it has brought
about, it has now started gaining popularity.
Today, it is starting to see prominent use in
architectural applications. The first ETFE
building that gained attention was The Water
Cube used in the 2008 Beijing Olympics,
followed by the Allianz Arena Football Stadium
in Germany, and the Minnesota Vikings Stadium in
Minneapolis.
Properties of ETFE
ETFE is initially in the form of a polymer, which
is extruded into thin transparent sheets that can
be used as roofing, cladding, and façade systems.
It is a unique material that is very strong, yet
light in weight, and is highly resistant to
corrosive forces. The material does not
degrade under UV light or radioactive forces, nor
does it corrode when it comes in contact with air
or pollution. ETFE has a very low coefficient of
friction, which helps water and snow to slide off
of it very easily. Thus, you will never need to
clean the material to get rid of dirt, dust, and
2
other contaminants, as they simply get carried
off with rain water. ETFE is also very light
in weight. It can weigh 1-3 of traditional
cladding systems. But, it is so strong that it
allows dramatic cost savings as the surrounding
structure does not have to support as great of
a load. It can also be stretched to three times
its length. ETFE is also very recyclable, thus
can be completely recycled for re-use. Thus, the
environmental impact of the material is much
lower than other materials. With all these
properties, ETFE has gained such preference among
both architects and interior designers. It is
thus very popularly used in roofing and cladding
applications, giving a clear and unique ceiling.
ETFE The future
ETFE will also continue to see such usage in the
future. It will also see new use and
more widespread applications. There are likely
many new exciting possibilities for the
widespread use of ETFE, and it will continue to
be used. So, the next time you are looking for a
transparent structure to be built, make sure you
choose ETFE foil roof. You can also opt for ETFE
cushions is you want an inflated roof. Whatever
your choice, you can approach Tuflite Polymers.
This is the place where you can get both ETFE
foil and ETFE cushions in the best possible
quality. This is because Tuflite Polymers has
partnered with Vector Foiltec, the leader in
manufacturing world class quality ETFE. So, this
could be your best bet for sure!
