• Any generator can function at a lower load and
  that might not cause any problems in the short
  run but it might prove to be harmful for the
  engine in the longer run.
• Running of any Dg set on less than 30 load for
  longer period of time, might cause sealing of
  cylinder.
• which will eventually increase the amount of
  carbon residual inside the combustion chamber.

generator?

• Also, a reduced load can also lead to lower
  combustion, eventually leading to higher soot
  formation.
• Residual unburnt fuel, due to poor combustion,
  can clog the piston rings in the engine and
  hinder its smooth functioning.
• To avoid such problems, companies generally
  suggest utilising 70-80 of the full load to the
  generator for its optimum efficiency and
  unrestricted functioning.
• Hence, it is not advised to oversize the
  generator because it's not just uneconomical, it
  also reduces the efficiency of the generator.
