  • Breakthrough for a Healthy Living
  • In his recent study, Harry Coumnas found that
people with poor social skills tend to experience
more stress and loneliness, which negatively
affect their physical and mental health.
  • As a result, people become prone to get affected
by diseases and a number of health problems. For
    some people, without socializing, behavioral
changes can go to extreme levels.
  • He said, For a long time, social skills have
been associated with mental health problems like
anxiety and depression. But poor social skills
have never been associated with poorer physical
health. Two variables - loneliness and stress -
appear to be the glue that binds poor social
    skills to health.

  • What does the Research Say?
  • In his research, Harry Coumnas focused on several
specific indicators of social skills such as
  • The ability to provide emotional support to
    others or self-disclosure
  • The ability to share personal information with
    others or negative assertion skills.
  • Socializing not just helps in keeping up your
physical and mental health, but it also boosts
inner confidence and provide social support. As a
result, when a person desperately needs help,
people come forward willingly to help in any way
possible. They stand beside, uplifts the morale
    and care without being selfish.

4
  • Who Participated in the Research?
  • The research is based on a survey that was
conducted nation-wide, involved 775 people, aged
between 18 to 90 years, who were asked to respond
to questions designed to measure social skills,
stress, loneliness, and mental and physical
    health.

Harry Coumnas Revealed the Result of the
Research After the research, Harry Coumnas
said, We got to know about 10 years ago that
being alone is actually a pretty serious risk for
health problems. It is as serious of a risk as
smoking, obesity or eating a high-fat diet with
lack of exercise.
