Recognize the few types of scan Avast gives.
Open the the Avast Premier program and click on
Scan on the menu bar. Review your scanning
options smart scan, scan for virus, browser
Add-ons, outdated software, network, performance.

Select "Smart Scan icon to start a scan of your
computer with one click to perform the various
scans.

Select Scan for Virus to see for viruses in
system directories. This will give you choice to
perform scans on certain files and directories in
your computer that are most at risk. It will scan
each file of your computer, but it take some
time. Scan a flash drive or removable media with
the Removable Media Scan. If you choose to scan
run, when you boot your computer after shut down
option on your computer select Boot Time Scan.

Select Scan for Browser Add-ons to find
problem ones that may affect your computer. Scan
your system once in month. if you routinely grab
new add-ons for your browsers.

Use Scan for outdated software to scan software
for new version. So forget about being prompted
to update every program you open up with one
scan, the updates will be applied automatically.
