Introduction and Basic Services

• Chicago, Illinois based Positive Sobriety
  Institute offers outpatient substance abuse
  detox, a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
  and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in
  addition to a transitional living facility.
  Treatment includes a variety of evidence-based
  approaches and incorporates the 12-step
  philosophy. The facility treats adult men and
  women, with the average age of clients being
  around 45. Positive Sobriety Institute also has
  speciality tracks for professionals in the
  medical professional, professional athletes and
  other high stress work environments.

Facility and Meals

• Clients who are taking part in the independant
  living program reside in spacious and attractive
  two bedroom apartments. Every unit is fully
  furnished with queen sized beds, full kitchens, a
  dining room and living room with large, flat
  screen TVs. A common area of the facility
  includes a courtyard with grill, tennis court and
  indoor swimming pool.
• Since every client has their own kitchen they
  prepare their own meals on a daily basis, and get
  their own food during weekly grocery runs.

Treatment Protocol and Team

• After the initial assessment, those who are not
  at risk of medical emergency can begin the
  ambulatory detox program. Those who are not
  candidates for the outpatient detox are referred
  to another agency for stabilization.
• Following the detox step, clients can begin with
  PHP, which is highly structured and intensive.
  This program runs five days a week for about six
  hours a day and includes group and individual
  therapy in addition to psychoeducation and AA or
  NA meetings. Topics in group and individual
  sessions are relapse prevention, spirituality and
  co-occurring disorder focus.

Treatment Protocol and Team

• The step-down is the IOP, a slightly less
  intensive option that includes a majority of what
  the PHP entails with less hours. In both cases
  these programs last about six weeks to 12 weeks
  depending on how each client is progressing.
• Treatment methods are CBT and DBT in addition to
  holistic modalities. Meditation and yoga are
  integrated into programming, as well as binaural
  beats, which is commonly referred to as
  brainwave entrainment that aids in deep
  relaxation.
• An aftercare program meets weekly in a group
  setting on an ongoing basis after the completion
  of the initial treatment program. There is also
  an intensive family program that takes place over
  three days and offers counseling and educational
  services.
• The multidisciplinary team includes
  psychiatrists, psychologists, medical doctors and
  nurses, LADCs, LCSWs, CADCs and LPCs.
