Depression or clinical depression goes beyond
simple mental wellness issues. It is a serious
problem that plagues millions of people around
the world. It can get debilitating to the point
where people cannot function as normal
individuals and it ends up reflecting in their
interactions and relationships as well. The first
step towards battling this on a macro level is to
first truly understand this issue.

Depression Is The Same As Sadness
One can in fact blame linguistic cues for this
common misconception. We are guilty of using the
phrase 'I am depressed' to convey that we are
feeling sad or low, which is why when clinical
depression is spoken about, people relate it to
somebody just having a bad day. This further
propagates the myth that depression is something
you can just shake off, something that is just a
passing phase and more of a lifestyle effect than
an actual illness of the mind. There is a strong
need for education in this regard so that people

People automatically assume that if somebody is

Depression Can Be Cured Without Medicines
Proper clinical depression often does require
proper medicinal intervention. People usually try
to avoid it by opting for alternatives ranging
from therapy (which can be effective at times) to
just taking a vacation and taking some time off.
Avoiding medication in cases where it is
absolutely needed could prove to be extremely
harmful. There is a strong need to have
meaningful conversations around these topics and
raise awareness.
