VoIP or Voice Over Internet Protocol is such a
technology which has revolutionised the world of
telecommunications. Cyber threats are always
active and constantly search for any crack in the
security. Therefore for a VoIP phone system which
is mostly online based, firewall is necessary.
Firewalls enable granular control and in turn
enhances the security.

  broadband connection.

• Running a home network which is kept isolated
  from the internet.
• When one wants to know when any program on a

• Packet filter Scrutiny of each and every packet
  entering or leaving the network. Packets are
  rejected based on user-defined rules.

  mechanisms to specific applications, such as FTP
  and Telnet servers.
• Circuit level gateway This applies security
  mechanism when a TCP or UDP connection is
  established. After the connection is established,
  packets can flow between hosts without further
  checking.

  messages entering and leaving the network
  address.
