Avni, her 2 nine-months old cubs and her mate
lives in the forest of Pandharkawada, Yavatmal
district, Maharashtra, India. Avni has been
declared as a man-eater by Maharashtra State
government. She had killed13 people in the past
2 years. 7 out of 13 had cattle next to the
victims bodies. This indicates that
uncontrolled grazing can be one of the main
reason behind this. 10 out of 13 killings
happened only on Saturday-Sunday. This arises a
question like why a man-eater would only decide
to kill on weekends. The DNA report carried out
on 3 bodies out of 13, and only 1 contained the
tigress DNA. All these incidents make us
think, is Avni really a killer? Previous shoot
order for Avni had been stayed due to these
irregularities.

survive themselves and hunt independently. And,

Avni needs to be relocated in non-conflict area.
All the shoot orders should be stopped. Capture
the tigress and her two cubs together and
relocate them in another area. We should try to
save our national animal and should not be the
reason to kill them. This will be the solution
