the wire needs to be bent or moved around. It
also makes them durable for use and provides long

frequent movement with high flexibility required.

selected by the technician to determine where the
wire has to be used. Stranded cables should be
used for short distances as the attenuation in
these cables is high.

Solid Copper Wire
Solid wire is just a single wire which is not as
flexible as stranded wire. It can be used for
horizontal and vertical movement. It should not
be flexed, twisted or bent as it can easily get
damaged. Solid wires are useful in backbone
cabling outdoor applications where there is no
requirement for bending or twisting the wires.
They are much more durable and can be easily
procured. They are also equally durable as
stranded wires but they should be put to proper
use as per their capacity. An electrician can
easily suggest you which wire you need for your
home as per the requirement.

Both wires are equally usable as per suitable
conditions. Where flexibility is important or
desirable, you should use stranded wire. Solid
wires are suitable for backbone connections.
Where corrosion can be a problem, Stranded Copper
Flexible wires should be used. But stranded wires
are not suitable for outdoor applications and
solid type wires work there. Solid wires also
have a cost advantage over stranded type wires.
