Smart Technology is Today's Norm Smart
Integration
  • Once these are integrated virtually, anything can
be programmed according to you likes and
dislikes. You can get up in the morning and find
the garden watered, tea made, the bread is
toasted the security system has disengaged to let
you proceed to the kitchen without activating the
security system. However, these are domestic
things and fall into the category of smart home
    monitoring systems.
  • That of course, is not all we have. We have the
internet, the world at our feet so to speak.
Without the Internet, our means of communication
would be severely affected. Our mobile phones
would not be able to send batches of photographs,
messages and a hundred-page document abroad. Of
course, our mobile phones or cellular phones have
their own communication system, wireless, which,
although improving daily is extremely expensive
between countries. So, this system is limited to
a certain extent in what it can do UNLESS, it
connects to the Internet, which it does,
wirelessly. All these things canbe bundled
together and referred to as the Internet of
Things (IoT). We order food online, we pay for it
online and we have self-drive cars, still in
their infancy but nevertheless, they are there
and becoming more sophisticated. Who makes all
    this work correctly?

Today's Smart world is all about Wireless
Integration
  • The Industrial Internet of Things IIoT covers
quite a large field and has taken the world by
storm. Essentially in the manufacturing industry,
there are many applications for programmable
logic controllers PLC's which we have had for
some years now, in fact as early as 1980, however
there are some revolutionary changes that have
    become apparent recently.
  • The Internet of things, industrially speaking,
refers to a large number of objects embedded into
various devices such as PLC's, actuation devices,
sensors detecting and passing information back
and forth, even motor cars. There are various
pieces of electronic equipment operating in a
real-time mode, that establish connectivity. How
is this accomplished? By wireless and the
    internet.

5
Entering the next Industrial revolution
  • Big data. That is what we are talking about when
we speak of controlling automation by wireless. A
sure thing is that globally, big data will
address millions of devices even in 2018. This
may bring about a problem of how much of this
data needs to be in real-time. The passing of
    instructions and updating manufacturing processes
is fast and is transmitted in no time at all.
When we talk of real-time data we are talking
about a continual stream of instructions passing
backwards and forwards constantly. This is a
different ball game altogether. Internet speed
and bandwidth immediately come to mind.
Definitely the IIoT is one of the fastest
    globally growing businesses.
  • There are companies addressing the technical
hurdles of moving and integrating data and
meeting the growing IIoT. There are also
companies with solutions to move data fast,
easily and, remember, it must be moved securely
over WAN (Wide area Networks) networks with
low-bandwidth connections. We need to have
    customer satisfaction by providing service
    excellence.

Automated Manufacturing Plants controlled by
Wi-Fi installations
  • Some manufacturing plants today are controlled by
Wi-Fi installations. Certainly, as the industrial
internet of things (IIoT) progresses and is
updated, the process of controlling automation
can definitely be initiated from your tablet or
mobile phone. If and when a problem occurs, you
can be advised remotely. This is how our world is
changing today, all of it being encompassed by
the industrial Internet of things. Most electro
mechanical operators and robots used in the
manufacturing process have built in data
capturing devices, enabling them to be remotely
addressed. They also have the ability to transmit
and issue a warning when they are not functioning
correctly. All that is required is an excellent
wireless network of the type designed and
installed by a professional. This relays the
    software instructions to various equipment
    capable of receiving.
  • This assembly plant in Oakville Ontario, is one
of the first Wi-Fi manufacturing assembly lines
has Wi-Fi provisioning on the line reducing the
complexity of the work to be done and at the same
time, saving costs. Using this SYNC software,
developments can be made, and simply transmitted
to other plants if needed. This factory has, for
example, around 92 unique parts each one which
has a Wi-Fi address. Quality control is also
Wi-Fi controlled. Equipment and devices in some
the vehicles today have Wi-Fi controls and the
software can be updated. This is just the start
using Wi-Fi transmitted software to installations
where robots are controlled and is becoming a
    worldwide trend.

Opening up a New World with Dedicated
Communication
  • New smart devices can, via our mobile phones,
instruct a television set to be turned on or off.
We can turn on the lights on our houses and turn
them turning off remotely. We can water the
garden when we are away by simply by using a
phone, also today we need never be home to
address a visitor or salesman calling. Our
security systems, door chimes etc., can connect
with our mobile phones and the visitor can be
addressed directly. Voice recognition is another
avenue and can be employed in our mobile banking.
Only ourselves will be identified by the
receiving device and therefore money can be
transferred or our accounts and purchases
completed without pen and paper. How much water
we are using how much electricity can be viewed
remotely, allowing us to be frugal with
consumption of these essentials. Our smart
televisions and mobile phones can be voice
activated as well as our computers and instructed
to go to a specific internet website. With these
smart devices, the room for error is less.
  • Not only does the internet of things save time
and money, it can warn you of approaching dangers
such as hurricanes, storms etc., whilst we are
out of town, allowing us to take the appropriate
action to prevent loss, thereby invoking a cost
    saving.

8
The Capabilities of the Internet in Canada
  • You are able to view your property whilst away
from it. Recently, it was announced that
electricity and water usage had risen by as much
as 30,another reason why you should consider
installing new smart devices in your home in
order to do some smart monitoring. For example,
you may have left in the morning and left lights
on and you can check this from your mobile phone.
You can adjust the air conditioning system in
your house if the weather changes dramatically
during the day. This also means that you can
change the hot water cylinder temperature at some
    considerable cost saving.
  • Smart communication devices at your gate or front
door are becoming more popular. These work on the
principals of communication with your mobile
phone which lets you communicate with the person
directly. What's more, you can see who the person
is and capture a photograph if you wish.
  • Smart communication let's you turn on or off just
about any appliance you have, provided it is able
to receive instruction over the internet. Not
only can the internet of things save time and
money there are a host of other options. You may
want to close automatic shutters if you expect
hail or other damaging weather when warned of
approaching dangers such as hurricanes, storms,
heavy rain etc., whilst you are out of town, all
this is possible thus allowing you to take the
appropriate action to prevent loss, thereby
    saving money.
