Netball Attacking Drills to Dominate the Game on
Court
netballcoach.tv/ For how long have you been
playing Netball now? No, that question wasnt
asked to assess your netball skills but to bring
to your attention the importance of continuous
practice, one that makes you the dominating team
on court. Having said that, it is important to
mention various aspects of the game that demand
regular practice and attention. Whether it is
footwork, handwork or attacking, each has a role
to play which will ultimately play a valid role
for the team. Remember going wrong with any of
these could result into a failure on the court.
Being regular at netball drills will have a
definite role in the success of the team, while
personally improving your game.

Drills Improvements in the game come with
regular practice, especially when it concerns
attacking. Players have to be very particular
about the drills to ensure they perform well
during the game, which is exactly why there are
some really important netball attacking drills
that they should practice.

  • Long Crossed Balls (Courtesy Netball Coach TV)
  • Get an idea of some of the most important ones
  • Weaving Drill For those who want to practice
fancy footwork and changing paces quickly start
with the weaving drill. All you have to do is
place cones in a line approximately five feet
from one another. Line the players and begin the
drill once the whistle is blown. Have each
player weave between the cones using their
outside legs to push off. Once the player has
gotten to the end of the line, they will turn and
return to the line completing the cone drill
again. Time the whole team the first time though,
and see if you can beat your time.
  • Front Cut Performed with one worker, one
defender, one feeder and cones this is another
drill that can improve your attacking skills.
During the drill the worker and the defender
start square to that of the feeders position
with the defender on the inside of the worker,
the worker is required to run forward, stop
quickly and then sprint forward to cut the
defender off. The drill must be practiced often
to ensure that youre not making any mistakes.
Also, note that a warm up session before the
drills will avoid any injuries during the game.
  • Half Turn Another one of the important drills
is to improve the attacking skills of the
  • players is half turn. Here too youll be
requiring three players in the same positions as
well as the cones as in the previous drills.
Cones here will again be used as a point to drive
    to.
  • Starting from behind and to the side of the
feeder, the worker and defender will stand next
to each other, but instead of driving forward in
a sprint, the worker will half-turn backward to
throw off the defender, pivot back forward and
drive off. This drill works on speed which
  • is why all players must participate in the game.
  • While there are a few more drills that you can
regularly practice to be the dominating team on
the court, these are a few very important ones.
