Title: How Do Commercial And Residential Roofing Differ

1
Roofs are constructed to help the structure
and inhabitants stay prevented against
harsh environmental conditions like sweltering
heat, nerve-racking winters, intense monsoons,
and terrifying autumns. While both commercial and
residential roofs serve the same purpose of
prevention, you would be amazed to know that
there are a few key differences between the two.
As a layman, you wont find any, but a
professional very well knows the difference
which is why you may be asked if you are
constructing a roof for residential or commercial
purposes, when you approach professionals for
roofing materials or designs. The design,
structure, and costs of both residential and
commercial roofing vary. This blog will explain
the difference to you in detail.
Structural differences
Commercial spaces like schools, colleges,
hospitals, shopping malls, railway stations,
and airports are much larger than residential
structures. And, this is why even the surface
area of the roof is larger. This means that more
material is required and possibly sheets that
have larger area dimensions. Also, the labour
required for installing commercial roofs is more,
as compared to that required in residential roof
installations. Furthermore, the material used
for
2
commercial roofs is considered with the fact in
mind that commercial roofing needs to have larger
load bearing capacity. This is because
residential roofs may only require
chimney accommodation, but commercial roofs may
need to accommodate pipes, smoke stacks,
ventilation systems, skylights, and more.
Constructional differences
Residential roofs can be constructed as per the
personal preferences of the home owner, in terms
of material, appearance, durability, and
maintenance. But, when building a commercial
roof, lots of things need to be considered. The
roofs for any commercial space must be built only
after considering the main purpose and function
of the structure. For example, if the commercial
space uses heavy machinery that emits a lot of
heat, pressure, or smoke, the roofing material
and design must be chosen such that it can
withstand the discharge of such elements.
Price differences
While both residential and commercial roofing
must be durable so that it need not be
worried about or replaced for the next few years,
commercial roofings are much more durable than
residential roofs. This is because, as mentioned
above, the usage and functionality of
the structure is highly considered. Such heavy
material usage could be expensive. Also, the
manpower required for commercial roof
installation is larger, meaning more costs
included again. Therefore, on the whole,
commercial roofing is comparatively more
expensive as compared to residential
roofing. However, if you plan to use
polycarbonate roofing sheets, you would find that
there is not much difference in the price. This
is because polycarbonate is one of the best
materials that can be used equally efficiently
for both residential and commercial applications.
Also, these sheets are easy to handle and
install, meaning not much labour or additional
machinery required thus reducing the costs and
efforts again. Polycarbonates are durable,
flexible, lightweight, and visually appealing,
making them the best choice for any kind of
roofing. So, if polycarbonate is what you decide
to use for your structure, make sure you get it
from Tuflite Polymers, the leader in
polycarbonate roofing sheets since more than the
past decade. And, you can get a variety of
polycarbonate sheets to suit your requirements.
For example, solid, textured, corrugated,
profiled, and multi-walled.
