1
Things no one told you about grain whisky brands
or single malt
2
  • Whisky, scotch and single malt have always
influenced generations and hold an aspirational
    value.
  • We have been raised on such a staple diet of
Hollywood films and TV shows, that when someone
mentions grain whisky brands or single malt you
would actually picture an old-school club with
    rich old men smoking cigars.
  • In a similar manner, if you've been raised in the
Indian 80s era, whisky would conjure an image of
    movie stars drinking at parties.
  • But this liquid gold has come a long way since
then with the launch of best Indian whisky
    brands. Let's understand how.

3
Indians can appreciate whisky better than most
cultures (Indeed!)
  • Indians have a far refined palette and most
Indian Scotch whisky brands have a rich and
    complex flavour, spice and smokiness.
  • Since the Indian palette is already evolved to
appreciate spicier and intense flavours, there is
a better understanding and appreciation of some
of the most powerful flavours of scotch.

4
There is no single right way to have whisky
  • Should one drink it straight up or add a drop of
water? Or is it sheer blasphemy to ask for ice?
Scotch always has a hint of snobbery attached to
    it.
  • The fact is there is no right way to drink
    whisky.
  • The only right way to drink this spirit is the
    way you like it.

5
Good tasting ability does help but it's not a
must
  • If you are keen on analysing a glass of whisky it
is good to have an evolved palette (as most
Indians do) along with a great sense of smell.
  • Having said that you must know that you don't
always need to take whisky apart and analyse it.
  • It is great to just relish it without analysing
    each sip you take.

6
Women have an evolved palette and sense of smell
(take that, men!)
  • Scotch whisky has been perceived to be a
    gentleman's drink.
  • However, ironically it is scientifically proven
that a woman's palette can appreciate it much
    better than men!
  • This is owing to their evolved palette and sense
    of smell.
  • The myth that whisky isn't for women is
    gradually being busted.

7
Age is not the ultimate yardstick of good whisky
  • A fact for those obsessed with the number on the
    bottle.
  • Age is an important factor in the making of great
whisky but good cast management and blending
skills of top Indian whisky are just as important
or perhaps more crucial than the number.
  • How do you know a whisky is good?
  • Make sure to read tasting notes and try out a
glass at a bar prior to investing in a bottle.
