3 Steps to Take Following a Work-related Injury
2
  • On rare occasions, a work-related injury may
occur when youre in the line of duty. Most
workers may not be aware of the next steps they
should take or the benefits they are entitled to
legally in such a scenario. While employers are
obligated to ensure a workers compensation
insurance coverage is in place, this is not
always the case, a situation which may make the
workers vulnerable to financial and health losses
    incurred.

3
  • However, it is important to note that there
are cases when the employer may not be liable to
ensure you are compensated, for example, injuries
that are self-inflicted due to the influence of
drugs and alcohol. When an accident occurs in the
workplace, below are the steps you should take.

4
Immediately Seek Medical Advice
  • Seeking legal redress is important, but not
more important than your health. Most workplace
injuries, whether its minor or major, are often
serious hence it is important first to see a
    doctor have the injuries assessed.

5
  • It helps in making the injuries documented in
a proper manner which will make the proceeding
steps much easier. In this case, the doctor who
is not likely to have a bias is the one not under
    the insurance of your employer.

6
Report the Injury to your Employer
  • Depending on the extent harm, you can choose
to first inform your employer of the injury or
notify him/her after seeking medical attention.
It is important to do this promptly as stipulated
in the respective workers compensation plan.

7
  • Why is this step important? It not only helps
you keep your employer informed, but it also
helps them file a compensation claim for you. It
does not end there, ensure you get a copy of the
request and make the necessary follow-up to
    ensure adequate compensation.

8
Consult a Workers Compensation Attorney
  • In the case where the above steps have been
followed and yet no results are emanating from
your continued follow-up, it would be time to see
an attorney who specializes in workers
    compensation claims.

9
  • Some of the cases of a workplace injury can
get complicated hence it would be important to
see an attorney or someone who has knowledge on
similar issues. It goes a long way in relieving
you the financial burden and emotional stress
    from non-compensation.
