3
MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker)
Characteristics
Rated current not more than 100 A.
Trip characteristics normally not adjustable.
Thermal or thermal-magnetic operation.
4
MCCB (Moulded Case Circuit Breaker)
Characteristics
Rated current up to 1000 A.
Trip current may be adjustable.
Thermal or thermal-magnetic operation.
5
MCB Vs MCCB
1.
An MCB has less than 100 amps.
while an MCCB goes as high as 2,500 amps.
6
2.
The interrupting rating for an MCB is 18,000 amps
Up to 200,000 amps for an MCCB.
7
3.
MCBs are mostly installed for home use
While an MCCB is generally utilized for
commercial or industrial purposes.
8
4.
Both are low-voltage circuit breakers created to
meet IEC 947 standards.
The location of circuit breakers in every
structure should be known to the people who
reside in it.
9
5.
Some MCCB units are specially made to respond to
remote control signals, usually as standby power.
6.
Circuit breakers are installed for safety reasons.
10
Note
MCBs automatically switches off the electrical
circuit during abnormal condition of the network
means in over load condition as well as faulty
condition.
The fuse does not sense but miniature circuit
breaker does it in more reliable way. MCB is much
more sensitive to over current than fuse.
