PRE-WEDDING RITUALS IN A HINDU WEDDING
4
ROKA CEREMONY
This is the first ceremony in any Hindu wedding
where after making the final decision by the
girl, boy and their families, it is officially
conveyed to the other relatives. Very few close
relatives are invited in this ceremony where
sweets, clothes are exchanged symbolizing that
they accept each other for life. This happens
soon after both the sides make a decision to
accept the matrimonial alliance.
5
RING CEREMONY OR SAGAI
This is the first pre wedding ceremony where both
the bride and groom exchange wedding rings in the
presence of all the guests and a priest. Some
people keep this ceremony months ahead of the
final wedding ceremony whereas others keep it 4-5
days before the wedding day
6
Tilak Ceremony
It is a ceremony where the brides father
applies a tilak on the grooms forehead
symbolizing that they accept him as the groom for
their daughter. From the brides side, it is
usually attended by the male members of the
family as it takes place at the grooms place.
7
HALDI CEREMONY
It is a ceremony that takes place 2-3 days ahead
of the wedding day at respective places of both
bride and groom. Turmeric holds a strategic place
in the Hindu tradition and is known to keep all
ailments and evil away via its medicinal
properties.  In this ceremony turmeric paste is
applied on the face, hands, neck and legs of the
bride and groom and is known to bring that glow
on their skin.
8
GANESH POOJA
  •  Every auspicious event marks its initiation
through Ganesh pooja where lord Ganesh is praised
as it is known as destroyer of all evil.

9
Mehandi and Sangeet Ceremony
A big fat Indian wedding is nothing without these
ceremonies where mehandi is applied on the hands
of both bride and groom and all the females of
the family. Grooms name is hidden in the design
of the brides mehandi which the groom has to
find out later. Sangeet is the next sought after
event in the wedding where people irrespective of
their ae enjoy and perform dances done in the
ceremony.
