Introduction
Although we are initially drawn to new cars by
their glossy colors and alluring curves, their
safety features often become their biggest
selling points to new buyers. Vehicle safety,
today, goes beyond seatbelts, air bags, anti-lock
brakes, and rear-view mirrors. New vehicles come
with embedded technology that works automatically
to make driving safer each time you get behind
the wheel. Lets have a look.
3
Backup Sensors and Cameras
We used to rely on side and rear-view mirrors to
help us spot traffic or hazards in areas that we
couldnt easily see, but now, thanks to cameras
and sensors placed around our vehicle, we get an
even better idea of whats behind us. This can
play a significant role in making driving safer
for us.
4
Auto-braking
Auto-braking works by automatically applying the
brakes to help you avoid a fender bender with the
person or a vehicle in front of you. Auto-braking
relies heavily on front sensors that can detect
when you are about to collide with the vehicle in
front of you.
5
Lane change detection systems
Just as cameras and sensors work to alert you to
objects or hazards behind you, lane change
detection systems work to monitor the lane
markings on the road. When you start to go over
the line, lane detection technology alerts you
with tactile technology or sounds such as
vibrating steering wheels, mobile notifications,
beeping, etc.
6
Parking Assist
Parallel parking is not always easy, but having
park assistance helps. This handy feature
automatically steers your car in and out of
parallel parking spaces and into parking bays
while you operate the gas pedal and brake.
7
Electronic stability control
Whether driving around sharp turns, or on tough
terrains, or in tricky weather conditions,
electronic stability control works to maintain
control of your car to keep you going in the
right direction. It can sense your steering and
correct you to the right course.
8
Voice Controls
Voice controls allow you to navigate to your
destination, dial a contact in your address book,
and take a call without touching your phone.
Note that it is not the authors position that
these features completely get rid of driver
distraction, but they can help.
