The Court Reporters Certifications
  • NCRA offers the Registered Professional Reporter
    (RPR) certification, the Registered Merit
Reporter (RMR), and the Registered Diplomate
Reporter (RDR). The RPR is the entry-level
certification, in which candidates must pass
examinations testing speed and accuracy skills as
    well as knowledge.
  • At a minimum, the court reporter should hold a
state or national license or certification. In
addition to that, there are many other advanced
certifications a court reporter can earn from the
    National Court Reporters Association (NCRA).

The Court Reporter's Experience
  • Some depositions, such as medical cases, are
highly technical and require a court reporter who
is experienced with handling the technical
terminology. If your case is highly technical, it
is important to ask for a court reporter who is
    experienced in that particular field.

The Court Reporter's Professionalism
  • A quality court reporter performs their job with
    the upmost professionalism. Key characteristics
    of such professionalism include integrity,
    impartiality, organization, focus, and
    punctuality. Integrity and impartiality are
important, because it is essential for court
reporters to produce transcripts and services
    that are unbiased and accurate.
  • Additionally, court reporters must be highly
organized and focused in order to ensure that all
of the minute details have been accurately
    captured.
