Jamaican Government Enters into a Formal
Memorandum of Understanding with Biojam for
Industrial Research Park
1888 Press Release - Biojam plans to begin the
feasibility study in the fall on the industrial
research park which will strengthen Jamaicas
existing and future science and technology as
well as encourage direct foreign
investment. KINGSTON, Jamaica - The Jamaican
government is taking steps to establish and
develop a first-class industrial research park
which will strengthen Jamaicas existing and
future science and technology as well as
encourage direct foreign investment. Through the
National Commission on Science and Technology,
Ministry of Science, and Energy and Technology,
the Jamaican government entered into a formal
Memorandum of Understanding with Biojam
Industrial Research Development Global,
Inc. Private-sector development is a priority
for the Government of Jamaica and the Memorandum
of Understanding aligns perfectly with Vision
2030 Jamaica, the countrys first long-term
national development plan, explained Biojam CEO
Christian Strachan during the recent signing
ceremony in Kingston. Illinois-based Biojam will
use its global network to engage multiple
industry sectors through research and development
and manufacturing which addresses current and
future potential needs of Jamaica. The research
park will bring together strategic partners,
business incubators and start-ups, along with an
array of local and international academic
institutions, scientific innovators and
industrial entrepreneurs to venture into
collaborative spaces.
The company is led by Strachan who was born in
Jamaica and currently resides in Chicago.

According to Strachan, With its vast natural
resources and intellectual equity, Jamaica is
poised to be the Silicon Valley of the Caribbean.
We want to drive innovation in the region by
generating new or unique solutions and embracing
new ideas that will impact and enhance the
quality of life both in Jamaica and throughout
the Caribbean. Biojam has already received
overwhelming support from various United States
government agencies. The signing ceremony was
witnessed by U.S. Representative Danny K. Davis
(IL-D) during an official Congressional Trade
Delegation Mission to Jamaica. Biojam expects
to begin a feasibility study in the fall 2017.
