What is gate exam
  • It stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in
    Engineering.
  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is
    an all India entrance Examination conducted
    jointly by IISc and seven IITs, every year in the
    month of January last week or February first
    week.
  • The GATE score reflects the relative performance
    level in a particular branch.
  • GATE score is valid for three years.
  • GATE Exam Score can be used for admissions in
    various Post graduate programs in various IITs,
    NITs and other centrally funded institutions.
    Nowadays various PSUs are also hiring with the
    GATE Score.

Eligibility criteria for gate exam
  • Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/Technolog
    y/Architecture (4 years after 102/ Post-B.Sc./
    Post-Diploma) and those who are in the final year
    of such programs.
  • Master's degree holders in any branch of
    Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer
    Applications or equivalent and those who are in
    the final year of such programs.
  • The applicants appearing in the final year of
    qualifying exam can also apply for exam provided
    they have to submit the certificate from the
    Principal of University or College.

Eligibility criteria for gate exam
  • The candidates, who have passed the qualifying
    examination, have to submit their certificate or
    degree certificate or provisional certificate.
  • Diploma Holders are not eligible for the
    examination.

Gate exam pattern
  •  The exam will be held in the online mode.
  • The questions in the examination will be MCQs and
    Numerical questions.
  • The answers to the Numerical questions are to be
    calculated by using the online virtual
    calculator.
  • There is a penalty of 0.33 marks for 1 mark
    questions and 0.66 marks for 2 marks questions.
  • No negative marking for numerical questions.

Gate exam registration process
  • Read the application form of GATE at the official
    website www.gate.iitr.ernet.in
  • Enter details asked in the GATE registration
    form such as name, DOB, mail ID and Contact no.
  • Next step for filling the GATE application form
    is to upload photograph, signature and  other
    documents such as mark sheets, caste certificate
    etc.
  • Next step Pay the Application Fee as suitable to
    the category to the category.

  • For changes from SC/ST to General/OBC is Rs.750/-.
  • For changes from Female to Male/Others is Rs.750/-
    .
  • For changes from PwD to Non-PwD is Rs. 750/.
  • For changes in examination city is Rs. 400/-.

  • GATE 2017 Application Fee and Payment Options
  • For Women candidates- Rs. 750/
  • SC/ST/PwD Category Candidates - Rs.750/
  • All other candidates- Rs.1500/
  • For GATE 2017 Payments would have to be made
    through online by using net banking or debit card
    or e-Challan facilities.

How to prepare for gate exam
  • Practice previous years question paper and
    analyze the weak point of yours.
  • Candidate must try to solve the paper in a given
    time limit.
  • Give priority to the group study, it brush up
    your knowledge about technical knowledge.
  • Prepare the list of important definitions,
    points, derivation, theorems etc.
  • More concentrate on those topic whose weightage
    is more then other topic.
  • Beware to attempt those question, in which you
    are not sure about answer.
  • Online mock paper is also a good option for
    practice.
