• One of the biggest names in the world of online
  games and video watching, YouTube is a popular
  medium today. In 2008, YouTube had
  launched Annotations Editor. It was meant to
  serve the purpose of creating links to other
  videos, write little funny anecdotes, share a
  joke, or add information of a video you like a
  lot etc.

• Today the world is living half of their lives on
  their mobile phones.  Mobile Media Marketing
  statistics have shown that a staggering number of
  1 million people are using mobile phones in India
  alone. In other words you have to tap and provide
  your audience a smooth mobile search experience.
  Back in 2008 when the YouTube annotations were
  brought to effect, the scenario was not like
  this. It was a time when the world had not gone
  this mobile.

• You tube has announced to end Annotations in May.
  The reason behind this decision is the fact that
  more than 60 of the channels watch time is now
  and mobile. Since the people are unable to reach
  the YouTube annotations on their mobiles, it
  seems redundant in todays scenario.

• Rather the use of annotations has fallen down by
  70 and majority of viewers simply close down the
  boxes so that it does not interrupt them. One of
  the latest Digital Marketing strategies of YouTube
  is that they will be replacing its annotations
  engine with End Cards and Cards

• The idea is save the customer from wasting time
  over something which is unhelpful and tedious for
  them. The change will come into effect from
  2nd May 2017. However, it is important to know
  that the existing YouTube annotations will
  continue to appear when the customer logs on or
  uses the desk top version of the YouTube channel.
