About Us
Only to the extent that we expose ourselves to
annihilation can that which is indestructible be
found in us
  • Being a caregiver can destroy us, or it can
resurrect us into a life of wisdom and
compassion. When my wife Linda was diagnosed with
Early Onset Alzheimers Disease at age 51, both
of us embarked on a journey that would reshape
our destinies. To search the depths of my pain
    and thus discover empathy, patience,
understanding and love is the path to my healing.
It is my strong desire for those who share this
journey with me, to experience hope and
inspiration, in a community of love and support
    that by our choice,
  • can be Positively Transforming.

3
  • Our mission
  • To support caregivers in caring for their mental,
physical and spiritual well being and to create
greater awareness for family and friends to the
daily challenges all caregivers and their Loved
    Ones face.
  • There is very little that is easy about being a
caregiver for a Loved One with Alzheimers
disease. However, at the center of any challenge
is opportunity. Support the Caregiver was created
to illuminate the opportunities within each of us
and to turn this time of hardship into one of
    profound growth.

FACTS
  • Nearly 60 of caregivers rate the emotional
stress of caregiving as high or very high about
40 suffer from depression, according to the
    Alzheimer's Association.
  • Caregivers are at a 63 higher risk of mortality
than non-caregivers in the same age group,
according to a study by University of Pittsburgh
researchers Richard Schulz and Scott Beach
reported in the Journal of the American Medical
    Association in December 1999.

7
OUR RESPONSE TO ABOVE FACTS
  • We strongly encourage you to reject the
"inevitability" of these facts. Instead, we ask
you to broaden your perspective that caregiving
is an insurmountable obstacle that will lead to
    exhaustion, illness and death.
  • Lets begin to look at the caregiving path as an
    opportunity for
  • Growth
  • Possibility
  • Healing
  • Lets examine perceived limitations of what you
think you are capable of and have your caregiving
journey be an opportunity to discover and create
the very best version of yourself.

  • Compassionate Care Plan A
  • 100 for a single 30 minute conversation
  • conversations via phone, Skype or FaceTime.
  • This plan is best suited for the caregiver,
friend, family member, neighbor, that feel the
need to talk things out and requires support with
    a particular challenge.

Alzheimers Association New York
  • YOU MUST INSIST THAT YOU DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO
    CREATE
  • A COMPELLING ENOUGH REASON FOR YOURSELF TO NOT
    JUST
  • SURVIVE CAREGIVING, BUT ALSO THRIVE AS A RESULT
    OF IT.
  • The opportunity to cultivate the attributes of
    patience, empathy, love, understanding,
gratitude, inner strength, faith, courage and
wisdom are greatest when they are forged in the
fires of a struggle of this magnitude. We can
never pretend or presume, that just because we
are open to such potent teachings that the
process is made any easier. It certainly isnt,
although in caregiving, quitting is never an
option. Some days it is simply about searching
for the courage to put one foot in front of the
other, while on other days you discover that your
well of compassion has become so deep, its
actually beginning to feel like a reason for
    optimism.

Caregiver Stress New York
  • IF YOUR COMPASSION DOES NOT INCLUDE YOURSELF, IT
    IS INCOMPLETE
  • Your healing comes from treating yourself with
    love and reverence
  • at a time when exhaustion and despair taunt you!
  • These 9 Strategies offer you a guiding light on
your path as a caregiver! I started out by saying
that I am a caregiver. I understand just as much
as you the suffering of this illness, and I
understand just as much as you the call to want
to live a life that is a testament to the lessons
    we have learned.
  • Life is indeed precious, and we owe it to our
Loved Ones, to ourselves, to our higher self, to
take a swan dive into the deep end of the pool of
possibilities and be a shining example of how to
grow and prosper emotionally through our profound
    challenges.

Early onset Alzheimers New york
  • For caregiving to be a healing journey towards
transformation, I believe with all my heart that
it must also be a spiritual quest. It is not
enough to have steely resolve as a caregiver.
Doing what needs to be done by placing one foot
in front of the other will get you to your
destination. Our destination is a future filled
with the quiet joy from the lessons learned in
    the crucible of our tribulations.
  • During caregiving, something deep inside us must
fundamentally shift, bringing us to a place where
    our lives are about possibility.
  • We can, we will, we must, we are stronger than we
    know!

12
Stages Of Alzheimers New York
  • From one day to the next Alzheimers Disease
became a reality for me. David and Linda are
close friends, they are family. Linda, at 50
years of age, was diagnosed with Early Onset
Alzheimers disease. After my initial shock eased
a bit, I had a choice to make. I could go on with
life as I knew it, I could wait and see how the
illness progressed and somehow figure out how to
support my friends down the road when things got
really tough. Or I could be there for Linda and
David 100 . I knew they were going to need all
    the help they could get.
