What is Migraine
  • Migraine is a severe painful headache that occurs
    due to certain physiologic changes that occur
    in the brain, which usually occurs in one side of
    the brain and can be experienced as pounding in
    the brain, but many peoples experience pains in
    both sides.
  • Its instability in the way the brain deals with
    coming sensory information and it can be
    influenced by different physiological changes
    such as stress, anxiety, hunger, nervousness,
    sleep and exercise.

  • It occurs mainly as a severe throbbing pain or a
    pulsing sensation but sometimes it is
    characterized as sensitivity to smell, taste or
    sound and often nausea and vomiting.
  • Migraines are most mistreated, misdiagnosed as a
    least understood aliment. People are not
    diagnosed properly and often mistreated with any
    other casual headache.

Types of migraine
  • There are mostly two types of migraine
  • Migraine with aura- Some patients show some
    symptoms or aura before showing headache such a
    flash light or blind spot in one eye to numbness
    or weakness in one part of the body. The aura
    last for several minutes and may resolve once the
    headache begins or will continue till the
    headache lasts.
  • Migraine without aura- Where a person doesnt get
    an aura, and directly get a severe or painful
    headache.

Symptoms of migraine
  • Most people dont show any symptoms other than
    severe and painful headaches.
  • But other symptoms such as sensitivity to light,
    sound and smell can be seen. And in many chronic
    attacks nausea and vomiting.
  • Mostly migraine attacks last for 3 hours to 72
    hours. But in some case it must stay longer, and
    presence of a migraine attack for more than 3
    days, should immediately checked by a doctor.
  • Some migraine show frightening attacks and may
    make the patient lie still for several hours.

Causes of migraine
  • The exact cause of migraine is unknown. Changes
    of neurotransmitter level in the brain are
    thought to play a role.
  • It can be triggered by many causes such as
    hormonal changes, stress, food habits, oral
    contraceptive pills etc.
  • A drop in stress level can bring on migraine,
    such as change from happy to nervousness or from
    stress to happy can actually bring migraine.
  • Migraines occur in 18 percent of women and also 6
    to 8 percent of male. Only adults dont
    experience migraine, childrens even can
    experience very chronic migraine.

Diagnosis of Migraine
  • Migraine is the most mistreated, misdiagnosed and
    least understood disease. Often most neurology
    doctors fail to understand or treat migraine
    patients correctly.
  • Migraine doesnt have any specific diagnostic
    method, doctors often check the patients,
    diagnose them and treat according to them.
  • Migraine shows wide variety of symptoms and they
    are widely different from each other, which is
    mostly misunderstood with other symptoms of any
    other diseases.

Treatments of Migraine
  • Antidepressants, regardless of nay mood can help
    a patient to relieve symptoms.
  • Blood pressure and anti-seizure medications can
    cause relief.
  • New treatments such as Botox injections, to
    relief stimulating nerves near the brain, and
    gently messaging the neck, head and spine can
    help.

Continue Treatment of Migraine
  • medications which can reduce the symptoms and
    severe headache of migraine. They are-
  • acetaminophen (Tylenol and others)
  •  ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, etc.)
  •  naproxen sodium (Aleve)
  • Trip tans (sumatriptan, rizatriptan, eletriptan)

Prevention of frequent attacks of migraines
  • Prevention of certain foods such as aged cheese,
    smoked fish, food containing nitrates such as hot
    dogs and lunch meats, and fast foods containing
    flavor enhancer may also trigger.
  • Exercise, Yoga and practice of regular schedule
    of eating and sleeping can help.
