Pathiramanal
  • Pathiramanal is a small island on the border of
    Kottayam district located in Vembanad Lake.
  • The island has a variety of migratory birds from

Ambalapuzha
  • 14 km from Alappuzha, the Sree-krishna Temple
    here is one of the most important religious sites
    in Kerala.

Backwaters
  • The most popular backwater trip is the eight hour
    voyage between Kollam (Quilon) and Allapuzha

Krishnapuram Palace

Karumadikkuttan
  • Karumadi located at 3 km east of Ambalapuzha, is
    a statue of Buddha called Karumadikkuttan, a
    popular tourist attraction.
  • Dalai Lama has visited Karumadikkuttan in 1965.

Mannarsala
  • 32 km from Alleppey, near Harippad, the temple is
    one of the most important centers of serpent
    worship in Kerala.
  • On the day of Ayilyam, (September/ October)
    thousands of people assemble to worship and
    propitiate the serpent god.

Kottayam
  • Situated 76 km southeast of Cochin, is a
    prominent commercial center with palm-fringed
    backwaters on the west and the scenic Western
    Ghats to the east.
  • Kottayam (derived from Kottayakam which means the
    interior of a fort) in the hills is in the heart
    of the rubber plantations.
  • People who go to the wildlife sanctuary at
    Thekkady, built around the Periyar Lake, often

  • Kottayam is dominated by the presence of the
    Syrian Christian community and is known for its

Mannanam
  • 8 km west of Kottayam, this is an important
    center for Christians. St. Joseph's monastery

    Fr. Kuriakose Elias of Chavara (1805-71), who has
    been recently pronounced "blessed ".
