Halloween crafts are a great way for
seniors to get into the spirit of the holiday
while enjoying the chance to stretch their
creativity. As seniors craft, they gain
brain-boosting benefits as they explore new
textures and colors while also doing a little
problem solving. Since crafting is always more
enjoyable when it is done with a friend, grab
your favorite senior or ten, and get them
involved in one of these creative activities.
4
Spooky Candles This craft requires minimal
skill, yet it creates an elegantly spooky effect.
Start with flameless pillar candles, and
encourage seniors to use spray adhesive or glue
to attach scrap lace to the outside of the
holder. Then, embellishments such as sequins and
googly eyes can be added to create a personalized
candle that is safe for a senior to enjoy in
their home. Creepy Gourd Creatures Fall
gourds provide a fun alternative to the typical
pumpkin decorating contest. Seniors will enjoy
picking out their favorite gourd and decking it
out. For the best results, use a variety of craft
supplies such as paint pens, permanent markers
and acrylic paint to create faces and other
features. Then, use collage materials such as
raffia to make hair and clothing.

Hanging Ornaments Those Styrofoam balls
that are so popular for Christmas crafts can also
be used for Halloween. Their round shape makes
them perfect for making pumpkins and ghosts. To
make a pumpkin, simply use paint to make the ball
orange or roll it in glue and glitter. Then, use
a paint pen to make a toothy jack-o-lantern grin.
Ghosts can be made my wrapping cheesecloth or
tissue paper around the ball and tying it at the
bottom. After adding a spooky face, attach a
hanger, and seniors can pick out where they want
it displayed.

Leaf Window Art Collecting fall leaves is a
great way to enjoy some exercise outside, and
seniors can turn their leaf collection into
beautiful art. Simply cut out a construction
paper frame and place it on clear contact paper.
Then, place the leaves in a pattern on the paper.
Attach another sheet of contact paper to the top,
and cut it out. The clear background makes this
craft perfect for hanging on the window for a
whimsical view. This Halloween season, give
seniors a brain boost while also encouraging them
to express their creativity. Preparing a few
craft ideas is inexpensive and quick when you use
materials that come from falls bounty. Whether
you do one craft or all of them, seniors will
enjoy showing off their finished work with pride.
