About
  • Process of production of Hydrogen H2 and
Carbon C from Methane CH4 using source of
    Renewable Energy i.e. Solar energy.
  • Mainly used for production of hydrogen.
  • Hydrogen has more calorific value than methane.
  • Hydrogen as fuel, is free from emission of Carbon
    dioxide CO2 .

This graph shows the equilibrium composition of
system methane, as the function of temperature.
As the composition of METHANE decreases the
concentration of HYDROGEN and CARBON
increases. With respect to change in
temperature, the above concentration graph is
obtained.

MERITS
  • Decarbonization of fossil fuels.
  • Reduction of greenhouse gases and other
    pollutants.
  • Quality is also upgraded as their calorific value
    is increased.

11
DEMERITS
  • Requires a large area.
  • Continuous temperature maintenance is a typical
task for reactor during winter and monsoon
    seasons.
  • Installation cost is also high.

12
USES
  • Presently Liquid hydrogen so produced is used as
    a fuel in spaceships.
  • Whereas Carbon so obtained is used for production
of rubber and in tyre industries.
  • This process is used on many other fossil fuels
for production of decarbonized fuel for the
    sustainability of our environment.

13
Conclusion
  • CO2 lean/free hydrogen is crucial for the energy
economy no matter how the development will be.The
mixing of solar and fossil energies could
substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions and
become an important intermediate solution towards
    a sustainable energy supply system.
